It's less about vanity and more about vitality. A woman worth dating, regardless of age, isn't going to find a "gym bro" or body builder type attractive because it comes off as narcissistic, insecure, and high maintenance. I find a military PT or presidential fitness approach to a well rounded recreational activity routine has worked for me. I have an athletic build and good cardiovascular fitness, but most people would consider me lean moreso than muscular, especially while wearing clothes.
What twenty something women find attractive in older guys is experience, competency, and let's face it, the benefits of the resources that accompany these traits. Be prepared to be picky. If you're the kind of guy who remains attractive to younger women into your 30s and 40s, you get all kinds of women giving you positive signals and body language as you move about. The barista, gym gals, or hair dresser types are the ones you'll encounter most frequently. I'm not into these kinds of women generally speaking, but if you're just looking to hang or you're into being "the man" for a certain kind of woman, knock yourself out.
The smart move, in my opinion, is a 25-30 year old woman you meet organically in what would most likely be a professional setting. Be prepared for haters though, particularly from couples in your social circle.
