First heard it during Luis G’s post race interview. Looked up the meet and they also seem to be hinting at it. Is this for real that these guys would be running that in May?

feels hard to believe they will hold that for 4k. Dropping 5-15s off your 5000m is a pretty big ask and several of those PRs are well in the past
These guys being in shape to time trial a super fast 5k on May 30 wouldn’t surprise me at all.
Who’s most likely to set a new WR? I think Cheptegei is only 4th most likely behind Kiplimo, Kejelcha and Aregawi, but I’m not sure between those three. As fast as they all ran last year, with big negative splits, it certainly seems possible.

I find sub-12:30 a bit of a stretch but a WR is plenty exciting. The only relevant PR that could be called “well in the past” is Cheptegei’s 12:35. Aregawi, Kejelcha, Kiplimo and Gebrhiwet all ran their 12:40-12:42 PRs inside of the last year (and Cheptegei ran 12:41 last year, too).
Brosnan must be coaching these guys. A 12:35 5000 just isn't that fast. Stop imposing artificial boundaries!

Ask yourself who manages Kiplimo. Dig deeper.
I hope Kejelcha has the year of his life.
I paced a 400 at sub 12:30 5k pace in a workout, where is my thread?
My question is who are they going to find to pace a race that fast. Because ideally you'd like someone to get to 3k or so, but most guys capable of running under 7:30 aren't going to want to be pacing.
Think Kiplimo or Aregawi are more likely than Cheptegei, who is slightly older and doesn’t really run fast before the major champs.
Pacing lights?
Is it possible to set pace lights, 60 seconds a lap? Yes. Is it possible to get paid pacers to split 3000m, 7:30 and continue at same pace for another 1000m? That won't happen. Guys will be on their own by 3500m.

Yeah this is the biggest problem. Most likely I see the last pacer making it a bit over 6 and a half laps then dropping out, with maybe one of the big names going to the front to try and hold pace
I’d love to see Stewy pace.
Sounds like an EPO fest to me.
The organizers are just trying to hype up the race because of all the big names. It will not be a sub 12:30 race

Is there anywhere that lists head to heads, like Kiplimo v Aregawi
If they go sub 12:30, the sport will have lost what little dignity and credibility it has left.
