What does someone need to be capable of over the 1500m/mile to run sub 15 for 5km?
Assuming you're male, 4:00 / 4:20 1500 / mile
The 'slowest' person I saw ran low 14:20x with a 4:19 PR but he ran under 4:05 a bit later
4.50 mile but you have to do 3.1 of them with 0 min rest
For 95% of guys the consensus is that sub 4:00 / 4:20 = sub 15. If you were to go through the PRs of most 1500 / 5k guys who race both distances often you would see most 14:50 guys in the 4:15-4:18 range.
Strangely enough though, my teammate ran 14:30s twice but at the same time couldn't break 4:04 in the 1500 with several serious tries, he's more of a 10k guy, a grinder without much of a kick. You do run into guys like that every now and then.
