Americans Courtney Lindsey & Kenny Bednarek have been in fine form in 2024 but only one can win the 200 in Doha. Plus Timothy Cheruiyot, Reynold Cheruiyot, and Abel Kipsang against Narve Nordas in the 1500.
We'll break down the track and field action at the 2024 Doha Diamond League right after it ends. Who won the 200m showdown? Who won the men's 1500 battle bet...
It seems wind did them no favors, but I’d say Michael Norman should be thinking this is his title to win if he can get his peak right. I’m dubious we’ll see Gardiner at a sub-43.8 level, though he just did it last year before injury.

Moraa from Reekie, wasn't totally convinced with 200 to go but classic Moraa being the strongest on the home strait and moving away by the end
I don’t think Reekie would’ve won, but I wonder how she might’ve fared had she made a hard attack on the backstretch/beginning of turn. Instead she got shuffled back, and let Moraa gather for the last 100.
EDIT: decent enough strategy for 2nd, but the upside to win wasn’t there

Reekie made some tactical errors around 600 letting 2 others get by then going wide around the bend to get back around them, but still a really strong opener. Would love to see her medal this year and break out of the 4-5 spot. Moraa extremely strong as always down the straight

Agreed. By waiting, Reekie spent 200-150 to go boxed in and bumped around. Then had to out into lane 2 to find room to run, by which time Moraa an an insurmountable lead.

The risk is taking on all that wind and getting run down by more than just Moraa (if you can even get by her). Moraa definitely didn’t have it easy taking on the wind but slowing to 31-second tempo ensured she’d close well.
