Ventura's Sadie Englehardt looks set to continue her outstanding running on Saturday, May 11th at the CIF southern section track and field finals in the 1600 meters and TBD 4x400.
Much to the dismay of the "Sadie Englehardt gives up High School eligibility and will run in race with Pros and college athletes" crowd, she's eligible to compete in the qualifying races for the California state meet.
In 2023, she competed in the 1600, 800, 4x800 and I think the 4x400.
In 2024, she chose to bypass the 800. At the CIF SS prelims last week in the 1600, she ran alongside her teammate Tiffany Sax before pulling away easily in the last 150-200 meters. Look for her to win again this weekend and at a minimum to run a time to easily ensure her a top 12 place (between all 4 divisions) in the masters meet next week.
In other distance races, the boys 3200m d1/d3 combined should be an outstanding contest between 2023 California state meet finalists Jason Parra (2nd) and Manny Perez (14th). They will both first run in separate d1/d3 1600 races. Evan Noonan looks tough to beat in the d2/d4 combined 3200m race but will first compete in the d2 1600 race against a loaded field that includes 2 Ventura and 2 Dana Hills runners along with Andreas Dybdahl of Santa Barbara. In other girls distance races look for JSerra to dominate the list of qualifiers to the masters meet.
The 2024 CIF SS prelims were shown free and live on youtube last week by HDrunners and on a delayed basis by others. Unconfirmed but HDrunners will likely have live and/or delayed coverage this weekend.
