Let me preface this by saying I love running, training, and competing. But, I’m getting to a point now in my mid-30s where I’m feeling physically and emotionally exhausted from it. I’ve been hitting it pretty hard since the start of the pandemic and have been balancing training/competing with my career. I have run some really solid times since then but haven’t come very close to a PB since 2022 when I set multiple. My problem is that lately, I’m really not enjoying running at all, I feel mentally/physically depleted and I haven’t seen any material progress despite training as much as ever.
Part of the problem is that in the past, I would get injured every so often which would force me to take a couple of months off to mentally and physically reset. I would come off of these breaks out of shape but mentally hungry to get back in shape and improve. I’ve had zero injuries in the last 4 years so I haven’t had any forced time off.
So what does LRC think? Should I take a month or two off and just relax for a bit?
