Back story....former Mid-Distance runner in college, at my best fitness level, I was around 6'2 155-165lbs. However, I've always been built more like an athlete, than a runner. Could've played different sports in college, but chose track because the university fit my goals the most vs attempting to play basketball at a smaller university.
Life happens(married, career, kids etc..) Still exercised off and on, and lifted, but now weighing in at 205-210 in my mid 30's. My "extreme" weight goal is to get back to around 175. I have been running very consistently the past year, but only average about 25 miles a week, mostly around easy runs around 9-10 minute pace with some workouts(tempos, some intervals) sprinkled throughout.
Has anyone successfully done this later in life? What do you feel like was the most important thing you did to lose 30lbs? Is it better to aim for a weight loss per month? Or to look at entire amount and say 5 months to lose 30lbs?
Hoping to hear from anyone who has gone through this as a former athlete, because there are times where I have to hold back, so my body doesn't break down physically due running with the extra mass(including fat/muscle).
