Admittedly i'm more of a penn guy but since it's not on tv, i thought i might pay attention to Drake this year but I haven't heard anything about any pro fields. Are they doing them this year?

Yes
If you look at the schedule, they have a handful of pro events.
The USATF Road Mile Champs were on Tuesday, but the meet is significantly less competitive than it once was. As a fan, it is sad to see such the meet lose its prominence.

If the elite coordinator is wondering why people won't race there, karma is karma. You can get so far for so long being a d*ck and degrading people, but it usually comes back around eventually.
Boldon?

Weather. The weather is always terrible. There are more meets now in better weather locations, and it's easier to travel anywhere in the country than it was 40 years ago, so people are going to the better weather meets. Penn Relays was always a bigger meet anyway, and I imagine they have a much bigger budget. That's why they're still decently relevant. But the weather there is also pretty bad a lot of the time. There's too much importance on getting qualifying times that it's not worth wasting a high effort in terrible conditions.
I agree that the weather is the main factor but Blake Boldon acts like he is too good for everyone.

He's buddy buddy with people with clout and money, but if you're an athlete without an agent and a big brand behind you, forget it. Dude takes the meet as an opportunity to be abusive and nasty to athletes.
