Let's hope somehow the GOAT pulls this one off. For Bekele to go out racing the Olympics in Paris would be unbelievable.
You can do it!

🎤🎸Bekele Bekele Bekele!🕺🎶
Has Geremew pulled out?
No shame if he doesn't make it, either. This would be what, at least 21 years since his senior international debut? If he was from any country besides Ethiopia or Kenya he'd be set for his sixth consecutive Olympic appearance.
Getting snubbed in 2016 was at least understandable as he hadn't really broken through the marathon yet.. his 2:03 in Berlin came later. But the shenanigans in 2021 with the 35k(?) "trials" race, after Bekele was an anointed 2:01 man, was unforgivable.. He has been a man at war with his own country for much of his career. Missing Paris would not SUBTRACT from his greatness in any way at this point. But it would ADD to his legend and become a great sendoff. Any fan of the sport should be cheering full throat for him
as he great man said in valencia, he needs more time. 2028 seems like enough time for him to get the gold imo
How has he managed to train during civil war?
If he ran 2:01 on 10 mpw that is truely inspirational

He won the silver in the now defunct “short course” at World XC 2001, kicking past Benjamin Limo, who was already a WC silver medalist over 5,000 (and would win the gold in 2005). He was 18 at the time, and dominated the u20 race (winning by 33 seconds) at the same championships. The following year, age 19, he won his first senior men’s/short course double:
There was some controversy in 2002 over a drug test

Even back in 2013 we were told the 10,000m on Friday night at the Pre Classic would serve as something of an Ethiopian world champions trials, and Bekele kicked to the win but was snubbed in selection because his time was “only” 27:12. Ethiopia even got to send 4 since Jeilan was the defending champion. Imane Merga and Dejen Gebremeskel were selected and placed 12th and 16th respectively…
what are the circumstances with which he can make the team?
