Great attack on the backstretch. Myers got a little passive/deferential to Stewie and it burned him though he effectively boxed in Hoare for a while. Hoare smartly got free on the turn and he/Hunt had room to battle it out. Now for selection, I’m imagining they’ll look for every reason to keep Stewie in over Hunt unless he shifts gears to the 5,000 or Hunt drops a 3:31.
Don't know what Mcsweyn was thinking letting the race go out so slow, first lap was 61 I think, he should have taken them through 800 in a fast split, at least 1:54 if not 1:52 to run the legs out of the kickers.
I didn't think Mcsweyn was going to win even if he did set a fast pace from the start, I was thinking he would rabbit the field and then get out kicked by at least 1 runner in the last lap (most likely Spencer) but still thought he would at least finish top 3. 5th was a #%&! run for Mcsweyn.

I was also expecting more from Myers.
Just checked and saw that it was 4th for Mcsweyn and 5th for Myers, but my point still stands.
The selectors have surely got to pick Myers. The long term benefit of him gaining experience at an Olympics is much more important than McSweyen going.
McSweyen does not have a hope of medalling, and if he reaches the final, will simply act as Jakob's pacemaker making it more difficult for the other two Ozzies to win gold.

2 years ago in Eugene he didn’t play pacemaker. Also it’d be surprising if he makes the final if he’s selected based on how things have gone. Hunt should be given a fair shot.

Wasn't he struggling with long covid in 2022?
I ddn't say Myers would reach the final,.although I think he would. The guy is literally maturing and improving month by month. Selectors will have egg on their faces if they don't pick him and he goes sub 3:30 at Monaco.

Who is McSweyen?
Someone with a name longer than five letters, so the chance that Coevett struggles with his name is really high (Juan Torena...).

He was still a bit spancelled from getting the Covid vaccine too close to actually having Covid? he wasn't right all that season. it was something of a surprise he made the final if I remember correctly

Yes but still not leading was a choice…and one he’d continue I think. Jakob/Kipsang lead so why bother.
I was talking of Stewy Coevett, I actually like Myers more in a messy prelim. The event I think is very deep right now and I don’t love Stewy in any unpaced race. His closing speed is in the bottom 10-15%. Having a top 30% engine becomes irrelevant if he doesn’t make it fast or others run smart behind him.
I can’t stop thinking about you calling this a dominant win.
Did you watch the race?
Dominant in the fact that no one was going to catch him on that last 150. Glad to see Hoare get beat. Seems insufferable on that silly podcast that’s so popular amongst the groms in America.
Fantastic finish. Super exciting. (Wouldn't say I call a 0.15s win with all top 3 leaning a "dominant win" though).
Depth in Aussie 1500 is very impressive for a country with a comparable population to Florida.
Aussie depth in the 1500 is pretty crazy. The depth in the NCAA is pretty crazy too. Adam Spencer has never won an NCAA title, but he crushed some of the best 1500 guys in the world here.

Myers would be better off going World U20 and trying to get a medal there - the kid is 18 this year!! Thankfully he isn't American, so that might still be a possibility. Why are idiots like you in so much of a hurry?
BTW where is your chatter about Dustin getting a medal at the Olympics - given up on him have you?

Yeah and what is up with his f*cking hair? Did they test him for molly after the race?
