It looks like the plate actually curves up and continues full length under the foam, and that part of the plate is just white. Can't say for sure though
The first differences I see is the partial length plate and only 4 spikes. I don't see these being much of an improvement over the current version.

One of the fastest long-distance track spikes to ever cross the finish line turns up the tempo even more. The Dragonfly 2’s comfortable fit and propulsive feel are built to go the distance in races and key workouts. Updated spikes, full-length ZoomX foam and a lighter, more responsive plate are ready for speed, stamina and podiums.
Stable for Straightaways A slightly wider midfoot and forefoot compared to the previous iteration improve the feeling of stability on straightaways and especially around turns. We removed two spikes seen on the original in favor of a four-spike design. And we elevated the big-toe side platform and updated the heel structure for added stability.
Light and Fast The new full-length plate material is lighter and more responsive than the previous version while adding durability. The curved design gives you a propulsive feel.
Breathable Comfort Engineered mesh on the upper enhances breathability and comfort. Its conforming fit gives you a disappearing sensation that is built to go the distance.
Energy Return for Your Strides Full-length ZoomX foam, Nike’s lightest and most resilient foam, provides energy return with each step.
I am confused. Are these going to be for racing? Or is it just a prototype for the hyper beast types who just want to own a prototype? On 5/01, if I buy these, are they ready to wear in a real race?
Proto is just referring to the colorway of the shoe. They've done the white/black/orange for a few road shoes recently and call it "proto" bc its similar to the colorway they make for actual prototypes. These are a finished product and okay to race in.
They only have four spikes per shoe… doesn’t seem like a lot
Anyone know why they’d do that?
Imo for distance, traction isn't really a big deal. 4 spikes should be fine when for 90% of the race you aren't accelerating. My guess is just for less weight
Seems like they are reverting back to Matumbo style. 4 pin layout and shark traction pad. Yea, I guess the Matumbo had success in the past.
But its so strange. They are kinda nerfing the Dragonfly imo. But then, the new Victory 2 is also 4 pin what is this s***? Ain’t the 6-pin horseshoe layout for Mid-D. Then the 7/8-pin layout is for sprinters (Maxfly is 6-pin, what tf?). Who tf is Nike accommodating for? Everyday runners? They can nerf Vaporfly all they want but track spikes is a niche shoe for track/XC.
Interesting. I believe the OG dragonfly was 20mm stack height which falls within the newer guideline (25 down to 20). So wasn't necessary for a redesign.
Though as much as posters think they've nerfed it. I highly doubt a company known for giving athletes the best edge they can ahead of everyone lese would somehow make themselves less competitive.
Hmmmmm...definitely something new. Is 3D tech currently cost prohibitive for large scale production? One thing is for sure: some kid with wealthy parents is going to be the talk of the town.

This is actually the most interesting change to me. One of the most impressive things about the OG Dragonfly was that it essentially combined the best elements of the Victory and Matumbo. You have the Victory's pebax plate with 6 spikes for good aggressive feeling but you had the Matumbos cushion because ZoomX is so light and comfortable. Now the Dragonfly is essentially just a beefed up Matumbo with the benefit of the plate.
However, the changes to the Victory I've seen make it a more interesting product. I think the last Air Zoom Victory was pretty maligned by Nike pros, as almost all 1500 guys and even most 800 guys went with Dragonflys (or Maxflys for some 800 dudes). I have noticed more 1500 guys wearing the new Vics so maybe they've made it more in-line with the true middle distance spike and the Dragonfly is moving towards a 5k/10k spike.

was looking at work during some downtime, and i don't see anywhere that 3d printing has been used to make track soikes. kinda interesting.
