Been wondering what the LR brain trust thinks about the various training strategies for these HS kids.
1. Train super hard in the off season and run every race in the season like it's the finals. Hope and pray you've got any legs left by the time June rolls around.
2. Try to peak for Arcadia. Big national event, get a scout's attention, get the press and the glory. Maybe recover for a few weeks until you have to repeat the same for State and Nike Nationals. Peak twice?
3. Aim for progressive performance improvements throughout the season, breaking PRs and hitting outlined goals, and try to peak for State and Nike Nationals.
It would be interesting to sort through the 800, Mile and 3200 data and see if these kids who crush it at Arcadia are able to maintain the same level of performance for another 2.5 months to Nike Nationals.
Seems like a loooong time to try and be in peak shape?
