What? The WR pace is 13:38, so going out in 13:28 is not all that crazy, and shouldn’t have caused a 59:30. I don’t know what the weather conditions were, but he seemed to have had a bad day.
Going out way faster than world record pace wasn’t a good idea for Ebenyo. I’m pretty sure he hasn’t broken 59 yet and I’m not sure 57:xx is within his capabilities right now

It was hot, high 60s with some humidity and a dewpoint over 50. Pacing was bad, but I think the conditions cost him the sub-59 he should definitely have at this point. I’d peg him at high-57s/low-58s in a Valencia type setup. His not hitting sub-59 at this point is pretty wild considering his record. Lots of bad condition races, dearth of/bad pacing, wrong turns/misfortunes etc.

Someone can fact check me but I'm pretty sure Kiplimo ran a sub-27 first 10k split when he set the WR, and he may have split faster than the 15k WR en route. He slowed down so much that he only lowered the WR by 1 second. If 13:28 blows you up to the point you go 59:30, it probably was wayyy too hot a pace.
13:40/27:05(13:25)/40:27(13:22)/57:31(17:04 for 6.1K). I think the conditions today were tough. 3rd place for instance ran 52 seconds faster in the RAK Half. 4th ran 34 seconds faster in Napoli. 2nd ran near his PB but this was a breakthrough for him.
