Central vermont here, miles from pavement - I do indeed drive to paved roads when it gets really bad. They don't believe in compacted gravel up here, just dirt or crushed granite (dangerously dusty). Mostly an issue when traffic is heavy in the evenings, not that I have a damn clue what all these boobs are zipping around the backroads for between 6pm and sunset. Hardly any people even LIVE out here, yet it's more of a problem than I ever would've expected.
I really do just suck it up and go cowboy style, though - bandana around the neck, pulled up over the mouth and nose for the 30-60 seconds needed. Learned that trick during a dry spell this last winter when I was usually wearing one Buff or similar thing over my head and ears, and another around my neck - the dang things really are helpful!
