Thoughts on the last 2 weeks of training? Any modifications? Racing Boston on the 15th.
NERunner, I know you are out there. Criticisms?
Your fitness level for Boston is complete at this point. You can't get in any significantly better shape in the next two weeks; you can only make matters worse by getting sick or injured through overtraining and fatigue. Do "maintenance miles" from here on out, with a longer one on the weekend (10 to 15 miles at easy pace). Above all, don't psych yourself out. Boston is a fantastic experience, enjoy the atmosphere, don't worry about times!
Called out by name! (what can I say I like the actual running threads)
This taper plan looks pretty good to me. Idk if I love the first Tuesday session (5x1k @ 10k + 5x200 @ 5k). Seems a little unnecessary to risk injury & hit speed in your 1st run after that long run workout but there are 2 complete off days in between. Could do an ez run Saturday/long run Sunday/Monday off day & then just run easy Tuesday-Thursday. I like the Friday session a lot. That's the exact kind of session I'll do the Thursday/Friday before a marathon. I'll usually do a 12k progression from just over GMP down to T. 2 x 3 @ HM is great with the 1 mile jog. Even the 1st 3 closer to MP is fine. I've pretty much done those exact 2 race week workouts before my best Boston's. For the 2nd session, I've done 2 @ MP + 1/2 mile harder if you're worried about the volume there. Other option would be to do 1 mid week workout 5k-6k @ GMP. Looks like the plan has had a lot of Tuesday/Friday workout days. The body likes consistency. I would keep to the routine and just make sure to stick to the paces.
Long way of saying the plan looks good. Could play with the structure early in the week but this is a good plan to get you ready to run well on race day. Take some confidence & know that the plan is set up well to leave you ready to roll.
Haha, I can tell.
Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it. Are you running Boston this year? Goals?
Last Boston for me was (fall) 2021. Switched to triathlon full-time in 2022. Injured (pretty seriously) last year. Hoping to get my pro license this year
What are you aiming for?
Gotcha, sorry to hear the injury. I have a friend with his pro license - he loves it. Hope you get it soon.
I am hoping for 2:45. First time ACTUALLY training marathon specific work and mileage, so we'll see. Ran 2:51-52 off 5k fitness twice.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
