Would love to see a mid-distance matchup against Leachman, like 3000m. I know people love to jump on and temper any hype there is around young female athletes and their development/progress, but we can all hope (but not expect) that these two stellar kids will continue to remain studs through college and pro ranks.
Y’all realize Leachman dropped a 4:41 in her 2nd mile of the 2 mile and also in the 5000m? Different levels. Ritz lost to 3-4 girls at New Balance 2 mile at sea level.
That's false. She was was 3rd in 9:52 for the 2 mile in Boston finishing behind 2 great runners. There's no indoor season in Colorado, so that was basically her first race back since NXN. That's pretty solid. Leachman has been racing nonstop since January. Let's see how they do as the season progresses. It would be great to see them race head to head again.
letsrun basically doesn't believe in altitude conversions, but some might begrudgingly give her a 4:41. Some of the other really bright ones here would say no conversion and in fact an advantage because of low humidity and cool temps. Just wait! They'll pop out from under the rocks here.

Ritzenhein and Leachman and their coaches clearly have very different approaches. Ritzenhein also races WAY less than Leachman and when she does it is outstanding. I honestly don’t think she’s ever had a bad race. I’m not saying one approach is better than the other; they are both awesome to watch and this is going to be a great battle for the next 2 years

Actually, Leachman and Forsyth crushed themselves just by going out stupidly hard. Ritz ran smart and won the race.
Right now Leachman is about 5 sec/mile faster than Ritz. Long term though I would bet on Ritz to be more successful. Reasonable chance also that Ritz keeps improving to make NXN 2024 a very compelling matchup.
Tuohy could has runned sub 4:40 in the same race at that age.
And Engelhardt ran sub-4:40 7 or 8 times as a freshman, but so what? Young athletes, especially female, develop at different times. There is no way of knowing where Addy, Leachman or Sadie will be in 5 years. Just appreciate their performances in the moment. There is no need for constant comparison.
Two amazing talents. But based on history, I'd be amazed if we're talking about either of them in ten years. But given that Addy's dad was a pro, perhaps she will follow a smarter path and stay healthy.
