I came across an article about how a steeplechase mile may be run this year in the UK to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Roger Bannister's sub-4.
It brought up two questions in my head.
1) How fast could the world's best run in the steeplechase mile?
2) Who would be the best in the world at it if it was run at Worlds?
I have 4 contenders.
Lamecha Girma - Steeple WR holder (7:52:11) and Ethiopian 1500 NR holder (329.51).
Soufiane El Bakkali - unbeatable in unrabbited steeples, 3:31.95 1500 pb
Jakob Ingebrigtsen - Olympic 1500 champ. Also formersteepler.Ran 8:26 in steeple at age 16. Also has a 1500 steeple pb of 4:10 which he ran at age 15.
Geordie Beamish - 5th at Worlds in steeple last year in his first year doing the event, World indoor 1500 champ
A 7:52.11 3k is equal to a 3:57.6 or 7 mile according to JK so I assume sub-4 would happen although I think it would be close.
This eent would be wild. So dangerous. I think we should get all of these guys and a million dollar first prize if the winner is under 4:00, but run it in 2026.
