How fast do you think the women could go with male pacers in the 10,000m?
Here are some facts
The womens 10k road record is 28:46 with male pacers and 30:01 without male pacers. Two women have broken 29 with male pacers (neither of them named Hassan, Gidey, or Tsegay).
The mens 10k road race record is 26:24 and on the track it is 26:11.
The womens world record in the 10,000m was paced for the first 8 laps in 29:30 pace, then when the pacer was dropped it was led by Gidey for the next 17 laps at 28:50 pace, to finish in 29:01.
The mens world record in the 10,000m was paced for the first 13 laps in 26:14 pace, then when the pacer was dropped Cheptegei led for the next 12 laps at 26:09 pace, to finish in 26:11.
Cleary the mens record has benefited from pacing much more than the womens record. The fact is, there is no woman who can pace the 10,000m in 28:50 pace through 5.2k who isn't already one of the super stars (it would take a 14:10 woman to do that with some level of predicatability). What do you think the women could run this year if you had a male paced 10,000m on the track? Surely its under 28:46. My guess is 28:30 would be what the top woman could do in the right conditions.
