Simeon Birnbaum and Rheinhardt Harrison are finally competing this weekend. They’re listed as doubling in the 1500 and 800 at the Oregon preview. What should we expect from each?
Good to see. You never know how hard they will run in a potentially rainy rust-buster. I'd think that they'd at least get their regional qualifiers. 3:38-39 and 1:47 might be in the offing for both, which would be outstanding.
I, for one, can't wait. These guys are too young to already be injured and "saving themselves for bigger meets."
When you are in college, racing is one of the most important things you do to learn the sport. Not just running. So yes, I am amped to see what these guys can do.
That said, I talked to a Duck athlete about 5 weeks ago and she said Simeon was "still dinged up." I am glad to hear he is feeling better!
Harrison dnf in the 800m, Simeon 3:45, 2 1/2 s behind Cook in the 1500m, closing in 59, compared to Cook's 56. Not a promising start for Harrison and Birnbaum, or, really, for Jerry Schumacher's top recruits.
