I want to get some new spikes for track this year. I am looking into multi-event spikes (Saucony velocity MP or Nike Rival Multi). I do 400 - 1600, besides that I do hurdles, pole vault, and triple jump (mostly just to kill time between other events). Is it worth it to get multi spikes or would I be better served getting distance spikes or even xc spikes (to use once that time rolls around)?

It's a pain, and expensive, to haul around a set of spikes/ shoes for each event. One option is to buy a J- heel cup, which has spikes and straps around the heel of your takeoff foot. This allows you to use your running spikes for the TJ/LJ/PV/ HJ and even JAV. Just remember to take it off before running!

Big picture, I always say track is crazy cheap compared to every other sport there is. Just get both shoes, I would not wear multis for distance. I am not aware of what Hurdles400 mentioned. Just get both, you deserve it. Hockey skates are $1K. 2 pair of shoes are your biggest expense for track. <300$
Also, I find that depending on your age kids (boys) grow out of their dragons constantly, you might ask if anyone has a pair if $ is tight.
