He went from a fading 6th at NCAA to dominating in 2 months. Sue me for finding it suspicious
Nico wasn't trying at XC nationals how does everyone not know that.
Like a week after NCAA XC he won the 3k at BU in 7:37 with a big kick, then doubled back to win the b heat (by a ton) in 13:22 with another big kick. I don't know why he struggled at XC, but he was clearly in great shape and would've been in the mix to win the 5k Blanks won in 13:03.
Dose EPO and test in that period. That'll shave 10+ seconds off a 3000 even in 2 weeks.
Don’t you get tested after winning an event and when you want to submit a time for record validation? Wouldn’t you be shocked if he wasn’t tested 3 times?
Yea agreed. This seems completely normal. People just fish for reasons to be suspicious/dismissive of athletes. This is especially true when they want to keep poking and prodding at someone they may not like.
Is OP suggesting that we shouldn't be testing athletes who are breaking records? In any case, Nico didn't sound begrudging, just seemed to mention it in the interview in passing.
Of course you would have a kick in the 5K when you are only running your second-half-of-10K pace.
Probably all in competition tests. He needs to be tested outside competition - A LOT

Yeah, this dude got good out of nowhere. If he had been a HS national record holder or placed top 5 as a true freshman at NCAA XC nats or something, that might have been a different story.

Exactly. Doesn't every winner at NCAA automatically get a test? So he got 2 tests right there at NCAA.
I wouldn't be surprised if he got another test at the TEN after setting the collegiate record.
And yeah, anyone even near the top should be in the out-of-competition random testing pool.
Fairest testing policy for everyone, first to last:
1) Whiz in a cup, step to the starting line.
2) Cross the finish line, whiz in a cup.

Doesn’t work that way. Why post made up “facts”?
Rojo, the king of typos, why would you of all people correct the typo "our" to "are" and leave "your" instead of 'you're"? How about adding a comma and period as well?
They should had tested Mike Smith, he was super hyper & agitated
he got tested after both NCAA races and now The Ten. its common, part of the sport. not sure why this is even a thread.
All NCAA winners get tested - 5K / 3K - 2 times
All people getting the Olympic / World standard get tested - 1 time
Makes perfect sense. He should be tested even more than that in my opinion one time randomly in Flagstaff too.
