December: 7:37 / 13:20 double at BU
January: 3:57 in the dome & 5k NCAA record, first to break 13
March: 5k & 3k NCAA champion, one week later 10k NCAA record, first to break 27
Feels almost surreal. Like what?!?

and all the idiots kept sayin, no food speed
Henry Rono says hello.
Rono in 1978 was simply incredible. Over 81 days he set 4 world records!
Rono was 26 at the time. Nico is in the running for best NCAA season by a traditionally aged 18-23 student distance runner. But #1 is probably Jim Ryun.
Even Peter would like to have a word.
Jesse Owens would like to say hello to Henry Rono. May 25th 1935 averaged a WR every 9 minutes at the Big 10 meet.
Rono, Ryun, Young could all lay claim to this
Samuel might be pretty damn solid too with his remaining eligibility
Give me a break. Rono > Young easy.
Why?
World Records > College Records.
My vote is NICO Young because his times are significantly faster than Ronos collegiate times. Nico deserves the credit!!!!
stupid argument and inaccurate
Haha, first of all the shoes are worth 20 seconds, then there are all kinds of recovery drinks, foods and methods that have changed the game. Rono recovered on beer.
Rono was on a different level than Young.
He's also a winner at the training table. Guy can put it away, no red s for Nico.
Paul Ereng won gold in the 800m at the '88 Seoul Olympics as well as gold at the indoor World Champs (plus an indoor WR) the following year all while running for UTEP.
And in the 1970's Africans were just getting serious about distance running. He was one of the first, and happened to be in the NCAA. So setting world records shouldn't be the standard, since there have been decades of high world-wide participation to set very impressive world records. Henry Rono transported to today would not be blowing Nico out of the water.
Maybe best “indoor” season ever. I guess you can say Graham Blanks had the best “cross county” season ever.
Diferent times, diferent trainning, diferent material, diferent shoes, diferent vitamins
Yes, Rono was on a different level . . . in age! Rono was 26; Nico is still only 21 and he’s already run the 10,000 meters 30 seconds faster than Rono ever did. Imagine if Nico keeps improving. How fast might he run by the time he’s 26?
Times and accomplishments have to be viewed relative to their era...
Edward Cheserek had a dominant Junior Year where he won NCAA XC, Indoor 3k, 5k, DMR, and Outdoor 5k, 10k. That's gotta be one of the best collegiate seasons ever.
