He ran a pedestrian 3:38.8 at the Sound running meet tonight, he’s way past his prime by a few years now. After being defeated by Cole Hocker in 2021, he’s been washed ever since. Just needs to call it quits

He is retired. This was just a fun run after he heard about Shelby's TT.
Losing by 1.3 seconds at his age isn’t too bad.
Far ahead of where he's been this time of year, act like you've been there before
Centro is going to be in Paris.

Centro should retire? I don't see that happening. He's having too much fun. He is still at the track talking to people.
He will be in 3:32 shape during the trials. He needs a quick pace in the final and some guys going for the win late that can’t hang on Nuguse and he will sneak past a Hobbs or Hocker in the last 50.

Watching from the stands maybe. Will not make the final at the US trials.
3:38 to finish in the middle of a 3:37 1500 race that took place in March, nowhere near the Trials means he has to retire? Why not make one more Olympic run? He probably is done but he is a gold medalist/popular runner. Go run one more Trials, get paid by your sponsors, interact with fans, ignore these boards.
Centro should give it up! Your gold was, like, eight years ago and you can barely break 4:00 these days. Just quit, already! U. R. DONE!

No he should not retire from the high stakes poker tables in Vegas. I always look to see if he's there but haven't seen him lately. I anticipate a comeback at some point. Hopefully close to 330 this year and not a falloff like Glen Rop had at the trials.
Why? He’s still getting paid to do something he enjoys.
he has stated his contract is up this year. Why would he retire before that, if he is still getting paid. He isn't making bonus money, but must be making enough to make it worth continuing to show up.

He’s one of the few people in professional track and field who has some name value. Why shouldn’t he milk it for as long as possible?
It’s not like Boxing where you’re risking brain damage.

You believe he will run 3:32pt before the trials? I have a tough time imagining that happens.
His 1500 days are long gone, and he just let his 5000m window close in the last 3 yrs. Had a great career though. The Gold Medal lasts forever.
Eh, I am not counting him out. I think he will be in 3:32-3:35 shape at the trials which gives him a shot if one of the main three falters.

Olympic years are fun because newcomers and old timers pull out all the stops to try to make a Team. Centro shouldn’t retire now, for the reasons you mention, but 2024 should be seen as a farewell tour. He’s a #12 seed heading into the Tournament.
The way a 34 year old peaks and a 22 year old does is different. A 34 year old can't hold his highest fitness for 3+ months. He has to be more strategic about his efforts and peaking. There is also an increased need for reduced volume to be closer to his best as well. If Centro stays healthy, he could be a different runner by late May/June.
Fun fact about Centro. After his race he threw his bib in a garbage can in the infield and walked over to the stands to talk to people right where I was standing. A boy in the stands asked Centro for his bib.
So Centro went back to the infield, got the bib out of the garbage can, and as he was handing his bib to the boy said, "Someone just threw up on it but don't worry, I wiped it off." Ha ha. Centro was in a very good mood last night.
