I'm surprised he waded into these waters.

Fox News should be banned.
FOX news was sued (and lost). Their defense was:
No reasonable person would believe us.
You're quoting FOX.
Go away.
Lyles is just trying to sound grown up saying serious sounding things. Rite of passage.
Were it not for the Olympics, he would be unknown.
Probably would still be known. This isn’t the old days with 3 broadcast channels on tv anymore. Unless you are saying without running he wouldn’t be known. Which is like saying without music Taylor Swift wouldn’t be known.
This thread looks like low-hanging fruit for the mouth breathers. Waiting they're arrival in 3, 2, 1...
I wonder where he gets this from? What website, newspaper, or tv station that reports on track and field news every day might possibly give Noah Lyles the sense that there is racism against black American track and field athletes? Hmm...
spend all of 5 mins on this site and you realize how messed up the US is
Indeed, this thread did invite the obtuse crowd.
Were it not for the NFL Tom Brady would be unknown.
What a stupid statement you made.
If you can find even one non-stupid comment badcompany has ever made it would be a miracle

Couldn't possibly be his life experience?
He said his life experience but as a huge fan of track and field, a black athlete like himself might well look on this message board for track news and see thread after thread of literally racist epithets and innuendo against African Americans, the threads about Baltimore or Chicago crime or math scores, individual acts of crime, and on those threads see African Americans called animals, etc. How would that make anyone feel if they were being targeted and they'd done nothing but the right thing, work hard, become successful in track and just see that kind of hatred and bitterness and unquestionable racism here every day?

True but I kind of doubt Letsrun is the impetus for his statement.
Displays of nationalism should be eliminated from sports as it is the individual athlete that does all the work, makes any sacrifices and may be blessed with exceptional talent, not their location on the planet. Politicizing sport does more to destabilize international relations than benefit it.
Hundreds of thousands flocking here legally and illegally each month, willing to die to step foot on US soil. Feel free to not drape the flag on yourself, if thats how you feel.
Why did he say that? It should be an honour to represent your country.

Read Lyles' statement and you will learn why. He literally explains it.
