I feel like it's 13:38. 1s slower than Rupp, and 4s slower than the national record, where 8:34 is 4s slower than Verzbicas/the national record. Don't you split something around 8:45 if you're running 13:38?
Regardless, I can't wait for them to race each other. Simmons and Griffith especially; Neither had competition. Imagine what they could run at Arcadia head to head.
It would be nice to see Griffith go up against all the best runners in the 3200, but I don’t see it happening.
If he won the race that would be a big statement. It would be a slap in the face to Rich Gonzalez. But why risk losing?
It’s not just Simmons he has to worry about out there. There will be other guys too. He already has a crazy fast time. And I am sure he hates Rich Gonzalez.
I think he’ll go and I think he has a the best chance at winning. I watched him live at new balance. He looked stronger than I ever seen him. Faster now than what he was during xc season. He’s a monster

Biggest Flex? Elizabeth Leachman running a 9:44 2 mile, with the 2nd mile of that race faster then the girl's mile winner. Then a 15:28 5k national record, with the last 400 faster than Parker Valby ran at NCAA's, on consecutive days.

What are you talking about
Schizophrenic probably. Half of the people on this board are crazy.
The last 2 miles of Simmons' 5k was 8:42 (that's full 2-mile). Simmons all the way. I hope we see Verzbicas record go down outdoors though, it's been a long time coming but the current crop might have what it takes, especially Simmons.
I'm curious as to the consensus here about Simmons' error at the start of the race.
On the backstretch, he takes 11 steps on or over the inside of the alley lane. He must've thought it was a 1 turn stagger, and not a 2 turn stagger.
A lot of the scenarios that NFHS Rule 5-12-1 address deal with actually being on the curve and not the straight. I've come to understand the common interpretations involve gaining an advantage and the inside on a straight could be construed as running more distance not less.
5-12-1e states: "The competitor takes one or more steps inside the assigned lane line at the break line"
My interpretation would be that, if running a race (or relay leg) in which a break from an alley (or lane) into lane 1 occurs, than any distance traveled, number of steps, etc. inside of the alley (or lane) to which an athlete is assigned would be shortening the distance.
Do the exceptions to straights apply to a 2-trun stagger alley? Is this a DQ? Is 5-12-1e referring to the area on the curve before a break and not the back straight?
It all seems vague and I'm torn. It feel like a DQ to me. I know this sport has a lot of little rules that people don't like and I don't think we need to go down that rabbit hole as to whether people would let him run because it's a stupid rule etc. etc. As the rules are currently written, was there a violation that occurred?

I'm still stunned that Leo and Lex didn't even bother to take a shot at the 2 mile record last year.

Running inside your lane on a curve is a DQ. Running inside your lane on the straight isn't a DQ unless you impede another runner, because running inside on a straight isn't making you run a shorter distance.
Easily Simmons’ 13:38 5k. Absolutely destroyed the indoor 5k record by almost 20 seconds, gutting it out with nobody to push him and no pacer (besides the lights). He is quite literally an aerobic monster and I cannot wait to see what kinds of records this kid breaks this season.

I get that. I agree with that. I've had to have the same conversation with hapless HS and Youth officials that don't quite understand it.
My confusion is that this occurred while running in the alley during a 2-turn stagger. I was just wondering if the common interpretations apply in that circumstance or not. In my head the alley's purpose is to make the distance run equidistant without having to have a large field on just the one waterfall line. Does running inside of the straight on a 2-turn stagger reduce the distance run and is that a violation? I don't know, that's why I was asking.
It was a great run, good for him. I was just taken aback by the 11(!) steps inside and my initial reaction was "That doesn't seem right". It's in the past, it's not going to change, I'm just curious.
