Anyone try Atreyu shoes? Certainly less expensive. Maybe just for regular exercise, gym, or short runs. Always glad to support small companies challenging the biguns.

When trying them, you should say I try you, I try you.
Yes, they're good running shoes. I go back to their subscription days, the Base Model reminds me so much of great, stripped-down trainers of yore. It's light and responsive yet more cushioned and less harsh than xc flats. Currently, I like the Base Trail as a good, cushioned, light, neutral all-rounder. I alternate that with the NB Rebel. It's as good as any daily trainer I've had and while it shines on smooth surfaces it's also better on trails than almost any daily trainer out there. Think more like the Pegasus Trail at a much lower price point. I'll probably buy this shoe as long as they keep making it. IMO they missed on the Daily Trainer in going too cheap with the mesh upper. If it just had the underlay midfoot saddle that the Base Model had it would be great.
I've had a few pairs of the Base Model and liked them a lot. I think I paid about $ 80 CAD for them plus shipping.

WHAT ARE THOSE?!!!!!!!!
I've had the Base, Artist, Trail, and Race. The Base was a great shoe, but not a high mileage shoe. The Artist was outstanding! The second generation of the Artist (now called the Race) doesn't have the responsiveness of the Artist. I was very disappointed. It's not that it's a bad shoe. It's just that I was expecting it to be better than the first generation. To be fair, my other track shoe was the Vaporfly so saying it's a step down from the $270 Vaporfly would still make it a good value at $120.
The Trail is a very good trail shoe. I'd recommend the Trail.
I've gone through several pairs of the Base model and agree with what others have said, this is a solid shoe at a great price. Mine have held up pretty well for ~300 miles so definitely worth it. I'll add that I do lots of running on the treadmill, and maybe it's just me, but man they are fantastic shoes for the treadmill.
I did pick up a pair of the Daily Trainer on sale and didn't quite like them as much, though they are super comfortable as a casual/walking shoe.
Last note, I've had Achilles issues on and off over the years and many shoes aggravate it because the heel counter rubs on the tendon--there's nothing rigid in the Atreyu heel and I've been able to run pretty much pain-free in them.

FWIW, had the same experience with my achillies. Could run pain free in the base shoe. I'm over the issues now but those shoes helped get me through. Not high mileage shoes though. I found the upper would tear easily. Maybe that's fixed with later generations.
