I watched the SEC Champs tonight on tv, and I have a strong feeling that Maru from Arkansas will win the ncaa 5k. The kid looks completely untapped regarding potential. Does anyone know his background/history?

Yes, he is East African, PB 13:07.

He also ran 7:47 in the slow heat of the 3000, taking out in a 2:30 first 1k and 56 second first 400. As a coach sending out kids to compete against him in the slow heat, I felt scared. He will make Nico Young look silly and lead Arkansas to another team title. Would have been good for them to get him in the 3k at ncaas.
Yessir bro!
A 13:07 guy will smash SECs. But at NCAAs, he's just another one of the pack. Nico ran a full 10 seconds faster. Anything Maru can do, Nico can do better.
I thought he had a Rosa Associati/Nike contract when he was competing at Worlds/DL/WU20s, so was surprised he came to the NCAA
Article from 2022 says he trains with Kiplimo when back in Uganda, was going to join the NCAA in '21 but then signed a management contract (Rosa)
I think he’s more than just a “13:07 guy”. I feel like he’s untapped. I’m still pulling for Nico. I just feel like the kid needs a ring.
Thanks for posting.

Nico Young will win the 5k!
Arkansas Men's team title is a hilarious phrase in 2024.
