I don't know Nick or his family but he lost his brother in a car accident about 4 years ago so I imagine that would factor into it.

Lombard has moved on and is no longer involved in athletics to my knowledge and is probably earning more money than 90% of posters on this forum, as a Solicitor, and judging by the reviews of his legal firm, he's doing very well.
Credit to the Cork man for admitting his indiscretion so swiftly when he was caught for using EPO which he had bought online many years ago.
He did make a comeback after his ban expired but I don't think the welcome he received from Irish athletics encouraged him to continue, precipitating his premature retirement from the sport.
EPO or not, he was still a strong runner. Sad loss.
