Per Strava he has been cross training only since his DNS in the BU 3k a couple weeks ago. If he’s not healthy for NCAAs you’d have to think Nico’s chances of getting his first NCAA title have improved tremen...
his strava mileage graph after his 5k record is insane. Crazy high chance of getting a bone stress injury if you jump up in loading that quickly. Rookie error
Surely, it's not the Boston winters...pounding on the road and/or training velocity? Injuries are part of the sport. It happens. He'll bounce back and be ready to rock outdoors!
Saretsky should be ashamed, this is . Churn and burn, collegiate runners need to look out for themselves and not sacrifice their long-term health for NCAA accolades, especially if they have pro potential. Sad!
A close friend of mine who has affiliations with Harvard XC just told me about their training regiment. The team follows a normal 2-workout/1 long run training schedule, but supposedly (on top of their 6min/mile easy runs), t...
Gibbys training is the one that breaks athletes. He doesn’t treat his athletes as people, merely input and output machines. If he makes then run hard and long, he’ll get harvard to nationals, and half might break. That’s just part of the calculation
This is funny. Probably a bit overzealous building mileage that quickly but he will be back running soon. This one is on Gibby. There is absolutely no reason for a collegiate athlete to run 100 miles at any pace the second week of February. It cost Graham the indoor season but honestly not sure he was even planning on doing much besides HEPS and the 5k at NCAAs. Th bright side is he will be healthy as he builds through outdoor season towards the trials. A bit unfortunate but timing is good for recovery. I don’t think he lost a race since outdoor NCAAs last year. Say what you want about Nico but Graham has the most potential of any American distance runner in some time. Saying all that. This is on his coach.
100% correct. Gibby got greedy and ended up ruining Blanks' chance at the Olympic Team.
The Olympic Trials are in 4 months and he's still on crutches, likely 1 month away from even beginning a walk-jog protocol. Hard to see how he catches back up to Fisher, Nico, and the others now.
Remember - Blanks was DOMINATING Nico just a few months ago.

I wouldn’t go that far. I think this was more of a precautionary measure to ensure he is peaking in June.
Moving closer to Parker Valby-type training while healthy seems the way to train for 5000m & 10000m athletes. Once a runner is badly injured, all training methods are limited.

What Parker Valby does works for the level she is at now, with her talent and ability.
It would be tough for her to function like that on the world stage, and I don't think it would even work on the men's side of things in the NCAA, regardless of talent.
