NCAA D1 is dead. Its a sick man about to die. No university will want to pay 30k or more as a salary to athletes. Most schools use roster spots as a way to attract students to pay roughly that to the university, not the other way around. Furthermore, if an athlete is now an employee, why even have him go to classes. The scholarship is dead as most on football and basketball wouldn't even want to attend class if they could just be given the cash value of those classes instead. Before long people will ask why these universities even sponsor minor league sports teams - wouldn't everyone's tuition come down if they just dropped the minor league team. Those with a winning record will survive for a while as a minor league.
Everything but football and basketball is dead. They will keep some women's sports to meet title ix requirements.
NCAA is dead, but NIRCA may survive. The NIRCA top 10 will be capable of making the olympic trials in this new world.
Only super studs will be considered for athletic aid going forward. Talented walk-ons and kids that might get a partial scholarship will not be considered for roster spots any longer. What school will give a spot to a 4:15/15:30 XC kid? If I got to pay him, I want results now, not potential results later.
What does the first track or XC program to be cut due to title ix? It's been...decades?
The first sports program?
I know other fringe sports, yes track/XC is a fringe sport even though track has high participation, have been cut over the decades. Wrestling I know has had huge cuts over the years.

This is the first team cut since the discussion that universities will have to pay all athletes as salaried employees and provide additional health coverage after they graduate or stop being members of the school's team.
Lindenwood University in Missouri will cut 10 sports teams as part of a larger effort to “rebalance” its staffing investments, the institution announced last week.
Good, it'll be more like a European university system. Academic institutions will be able to focus better on their core mission without the distraction of sports. In larger college towns and cities, interested parties can form for-profit clubs that don't give a f*ck-all about academic eligibility or course load or other namby pamby NCAA nanny rules and regulations. Runners will still run without direct oversight from academic Big Brother, and might even be better for it.
The ncaa’s proposal was not a real one. It’s a warning to everyone. They submitted a system that basically 10 schools could think about implementing.
They have been caving to every “athlete welfare” measure the last 5 years basically waiving the white flag.
Also these athletes do not want to be employees. You can fire employees. You can hold them responsible. Right now they can get away with whatever they want. Let’s get some labor laws in here.

Except to be Division 1 I believe A School needs to have 16 Teams (Might be 14?) and 6 of The Programs have to Men's, So with the Probability that 2 of The Sports will be Football and Basketball for Men that leaves 4 Men's Sports besides the 2 Revenue Sports (Women will likely get More Teams as Football has so many people on it, I would guess The Very few Schools that make Money will be Kept Example Penn State, Iowa and Oklahoma State Wrestling will be kept Iowa Oklahoma State were the only 2 Money Makers in Wrestling when I was at Ok State my guess is Penn State now is a Money Producer because they are so good now, What other Minor Sports produce Money? Probably Connecticutt's Womens Basketball, I don't know if any Baseball teams do, They kind of have to keep Minor Sports as that is key to The USA Getting Olympic Medals That is our System CURRENTLY.

If anything close to the NCAA proposal comes to pass, we need a new level for NCAA Championships. One for the Power Four, one for the remainder of Division I, and then II and III as they are. (I suppose like extending the football model of the FCS and FBS, but with a different cut off (the mid majors join the FCS schools) and for all sports).

I'm not even sure it would be the current Power Four. I can't imagine all those schools are going to offer the kinds of $$ that Alabama, Texas, Florida, etc. can offer. There will definitely be a new Elite Tier. Probably with new conferences.
Syracuse? Rutgers?? Maryland? I doubt they'll be able to keep up. IMHO most current Div I schools will end up in the non-Elite tier.
Coming back to track / XC .. I think it's pretty clear it'll get ignored at a lot of schools outside of the few currently pushing for NCAA championships. That's a shame .. we might miss out on something like a Touhy / Valby matchup or the strong Syracuse men's team when Justyn Knight was there.
Outside of southern CA, has anyone heard of LMU? I would bet if you went to Kentucky and asked 100 random people, not a single person would know. My brother moved there from southern CA so he’d know if you happen to come across him.
Yes but no. Most will have heard of Loyola Chicago due thier run at the NCAA BB tournament. Others have heard of Loyola Maryland. So if you ask, most will say yes but they will be confused.
