It's the only chance he has. Because talent wise Jakob will win 99 out of 100 times. The only chance Kerr has is to make Ingebrigtsen feel vulnerable. That's is Kerrs only winning card he has in his hand and he knows it...
Imagine if Mu did this against Keely? How would this board react?
It's good for the sport, or any sport. Smacktalk creates more interest. Do you think there would have been more or less interest if Muhhamad Ali and Joe Frazier complimented each other. No of course not. It's good for the sport. But you have to have the personality or at least do a good job faking it. Mu is intense and competitive but she does her talking by doing. Kerr likes to hear himself talk. But it's good for the sport
Kerr has really got you boys worried for your poster boy hasnt he?
Keep talking lads, thatll save your double threshold hero.
What’s worrying me about Jakob is his injuries -not Kerr at all… But saying that Josh could of course improve and blossom… As it is now he hasn’t pb’ed in the 1500m in two and a half years, and must soon let his legs do the talking…

There’s a lot of problems (f.ex logically ones) in what Kerr is saying: He emphasises winning in the races that matters as a huge thing, (and that he is the best in the world at that), after only winning one championship in his whole life. (And then he goes on saying Jakob is the one who is flawed in his self understanding..!)
Let me sum up Kerr’s championship career compared to Jakob’s (the ones Kerr claims to be the world best in): 1. Euro u20 xc 2016: Jakob won easily, Kerr was way behind. 2. WC 1500m 2019: Jakob was three places ahead of Kerr. 3. Oly 2021: Jakob won easily on a new Olympic record, Kerr was third, way behind in time. 4. WC 2022 (1500m) Jakob got silver and beat Kerr easily. WC 2023 (1500m): Jakob’s only loss against Kerr ever (with a small margin after clearly being sick). Some other champs: Jakob has won double in all (very competitive) 1500/5000m Euros since 2018, Kerr hasn’t even participated in any to my knowledge. And Jakob is the back to back world champ in the 5000m, and has also won every Euro xc champs he has engaged in… So who is the best champ runner, and who is flawed in his self understanding..!?

Correction: 2 places ahead of Kerr in 2019, not three…

Bad take. IMO his best chance is for it to go exactly how it went the last two WCs. JI pushing the pace and the kickers trying to win over the final 200.
In this scenario, he shouldn’t be convincing JI to adapt a new strategy but rather to keep doing what he does.
Kerr should just let the results do the talking. It was an incredible feat to beat Jakob, but all these mind games are beneath someone who literally “walked the walk” and won a world title. The mind games it took to beat Jakob was not trash talking, it was having the guts to refuse to yield with 200 to go. That was commendable, so why still go on with trying to get in his head when you already have proven you have what it takes to win?

.....
SAD THING is Kerr didn't think this whole thing thru, in trying to get in Jacob's head he is giving Jakob PLENTY OF time to IMPROVE his weakness. I now give Jakob (to whom I'm not a fan) a 55% chance of the 1500m Olympic GOLD and the entire field 45%.

Jakob has known this has been hit weakness since he has been competing. Hes physically limited. He will most likely finish 3rd at best this year.
Jacob is super talented, probably the fastest 1500m runner in the field.
But... in a World Championship he hasnt won, and the Olympics he had a rabiit for almost all the race.
On paper, Jacob wins more often than not, but the reality is Kerr CAN beat him. Whiteman did beat him. Naguse isn't far behind. And we're certain to see bolters peak and do well too.
I think Kerr is 100% right that Jacob is vulnerable to a sit and kick unless he can improve his last 200/300m. And I wouldn't be surprised if Jacobs injuries are a result of a change to his training....
And let's be honest, the more talk about it, the better for the sport. It isn't as if Kerr is a wannabe, he's literally the reigning World Champ.
I enjoy all this trash talk. It makes the sport more popular. But the Olympics is not just about Kerr and Ingy. There are a bunch of runners (4-5-6) who all should be capable of running sub 3.29, and by that be able to win. It’s not just to sit on Jakobs shoulder. Because there are at least four guys who thinks the same. And my guess is that at least one runner have a surprising attack early in the race trying to earn a silver or bronze. So Jakob will not act as a pacer in the final. My guess.
