Only a 4:06 and 4:07 at the fast 300m UW indoor track, these guys are supposed to be closer to sub 4 or sub 4. Both twins have been hyped up a lot but haven’t proven much to me, two good but not great runners
They could have a terrible indoor season and it would be completely irrelevant if they bounced back with a great outdoor season. But they could still have a great indoor season, the first race is not important come playoff meets.
In an era where you have to run 3:56 or faster to qualify for nationals, a 4:06 or 4:07 is pretty crap for people who are supposed to be some of the best. Back in the day I opened up in a 4:07 on a 200 flat track and then ran mid 13:40's for 5k. If they did that it would be a disappointment today. Even if they run 13:35 that's not going to qualify for nationals and it's not better than what they did in high school. At that age it shouldn't be hard to keep improving every year.

"back in the day" you were a true freshman who ran 4:07 on a day when you were tripling and your 3:55/13:05 teammate opened with a 4:00?
its the season opener can people relax. yes, its clearly not an A+ day for the Youngs but it's this hypercritical analysis that is swaying people from racing.
Either teams aren't racing enough, or they arent able to put out home run races every weekend and the "in my era" folks come out and scold you for running 4:06 as a frosh.

back in whatever day was yours, it was still completely normal for good recruits to not pb in the first track meet of their college career, and still go on to have great careers

Welcome to being coached by Santos. He’s a really bad coach. Hicks, Ky other own thing. The Young’s put running as a non priority picking Stanford

Lex & Leo will probably make more money from social media than they ever will from running so it was smart choosing a college right across the street from Youtube headquarters.
I think it is weird that some people still don't know about the trend to use "races" as workouts. The OP clearly doesn't know about this. It is a thing these days. I don't love it, to be honest, but it pretty common.
It is even worse in cross country when coaches tell their guys to do this or that workout during the race (run in a pack, run the second half hard, run one mile easy and one mile hard, etc.).
The half marathon is pretty bad too. About 50% of the guys at Houston will tell you that they are running it as a workout for an upcoming marathon. If Rupp runs 1:03:50, he'll say he was just using it to get ready for the Trials. And that is probably the honest answer.
Personally, I think races should be used for racing, but I am not a coach, so my opinion doesn't matter.

What happened to everybody saying they are the most likable you tubers, their reviews on shoes are spot on and running is only secondary? Are we now saying the running IS important? Just saying.

In high school? Sure, I ran most early season and early league races as tempo. Long season combined with being in a weak region meant I didn't need to run faster
In college? if you're running it as a workout, why not just take the B or C team to a meet so it counts? Why make your A team travel all the way if not racing?
