I started following Shelby on Strava because I think it's inspiring that she is so open about still wanting to make a comeback once her suspension ends. She has been grinding the miles and seems to be very good at training alone. Today, I saw that she crushed a 10 mile tempo at 5:20 pace in Lane County, OR next to the Dorena Lake. It just so happened that the next activity I saw in my Strava feed was Charles Hicks (yes, Bowerman TC's Charles Hicks) crushed a 12 mile tempo at 4:50 pace at the exact same location starting 30 minutes after Shelby. Not sure what I am supposed to make of this, but is she still working with Bowerman TC / Jerry? Pretty funny coincidence to be in the same location at the same time doing the same workout. I wish Shelby nothing but the best into the future and it would be really cool if she made the 2025 USA World Championship team that goes to Tokyo.
So she's still breaking-or at best, mocking-the suspension rules by training almost entirely with BTC? Even after she, Jerry, and shalane should have learned their lessons about this already? Very disappointing.
It's free space. She can train as she sees fit. Maybe she just feeds off their energy. I really wish her the best. I still think she is guilty but after serving her ban, she's all good with me. I guess there is a tiny doubt in my mind she was framed by the burrito. You gotta admit she is extremely driven. Other cheats gave up and never returned.
Good catch. I don't believe any of your schtick about thinking she's inspiring. I think you're just a good ol' letsrun sleuth which is fine.
Just came on here to remind the audience that all of Shelby's behavior since the ban has been awful from continuing to train and travel with BTC to a point that another clean runner on the team didn't feel comfortable enough to stay with the group to scamming people out of money with her gofundme when she hasn't had a job in almost three years but manages to travel and only train. Even on her latest instagram post, someone asks "how are you paying for all this!" and her answer just doesn't add up to me. Someone has been paying her.
Worst thing to happen to the sport in a while. Honestly just the worst thing.

Lots of cheats returned. Some of them got caught again...
A good time to dig up those quotes that DeBues-Stafford gave that random podunk Arizona local news story? The fluff piece that somehow got Stafford dropping allegations she never explicitly made when she first announced her departure.
DeBues-Stafford was concerned that Houlihan was working out “under the guidance of” the three BTC coaches (Schumacher, Shalane Flanagan and Pascal Dobert) at the same location and times that other BTC athletes were working out while under the supervision of the same coaches.
And:
According to DeBues-Stafford, Houlihan would also use the private gym – built at Schumacher’s residence for BTC athletes to use – at the same time BTC athletes were there under staff supervision.
And:
Shelby would drive to the Nike campus up to four times a week at the team’s regular time and the starting point for our regular daily runs together so she could run with us,” DeBues-Stafford said. “If she arrived before us, she would wait for BTC athletes at the meeting spot to see if any BTC athletes arrived so she could run with us. These sometimes included long runs. She also ran with the team on a regular basis at altitude camp in Flagstaff.”
Also that BTC staff didn't care or seek any legal advice other than from Shelby's lawyer:
“My attempts to discuss my concerns with team staff were rebuffed, as were the earlier and more sustained efforts of other teammates,” DeBues-Stafford said.
BTC did not receive independent legal advice on the issue, DeBues-Stafford said. She also said Houlihan shared accommodations with a full-time member of BTC staff during the Flagstaff camp, and those accommodations were used for organized BTC athlete support activities.
“When I asked if Shelby’s lawyer had explicitly asked the AIU about her using the same gym as BTC and about how to handle the altitude trip, I did not get a clear response,” DeBues-Stafford said.
Also seems she wasn't the only athlete who thought it was wrong, just the only athlete who left and had the balls to say what happened. If Stafford were lying, you'd think Shelby/BTC/other athletes would just have said point blank that Stafford was full of horse crap or even got legal but they didn't.
While Shelby's defense given in the same article was just that she was "she couldn’t go to any practices or work out with anyone on the team, but if she happened to bump into them and they were running at the same place, then she could run with them." Which didnt even begin to address the allegations.

I mean, she’s entirely correct to question it; but GDS has just always rubbed me the wrong way. Seems like a toxic person.
It could easily be a coincidence. Many people run their harder efforts on Tuesdays and Fridays followed by a Sunday long run. Friday is a common tempo day, and that is a popular place to run. It’s like if two runners in NYC happen to be doing a similar workout near the same time in Central Park. Happens pretty regularly.

"She's the only person who was transparent and honest, and who left the group because she wasn't comfortable training with a doper but I get a feeling when I look at her so I am going to call her toxic instead of the convicted doper who is breaking rules to train with the group"
GDS was world class before she left the team. Supporting Shelby was dumbfounding on the part of Jerry. Focus on the athletes you have instead of supporting/coaching somebody suspended for a drug violation.
Seems like there is a thread on this topic every few months. I bet she'll (coincidentally, of course) spend a month or two in Park City again this summer.

A feeling? Nah. The fact that she seems to always be complaining, and everything is always someone else’s fault. Seems like she sort of thrives on the drama.
