Will the Nike Alphafly 3's be allowed at the Olympic Marathon Trials? IIRC shoes have to be available for the general public to purchase for at least 90 days before they can be worn in championship events.
I've been hearing some chatter about the Nike Alphafly 3's and their potential eligibility for the Olympic Marathon Trials. As we all know, shoe regulations in competitive events have been a hot topic, and the 90-day rule is indeed one of the factors to consider.
From my understanding, for a shoe to be allowed in championship events, including the Olympic Marathon Trials, it must be available for the general public to purchase for at least 90 days. So, the question is: will the Nike Alphafly 3's meet this criterion?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think Nike will ensure the Alphafly 3's are on the market in time for the 90-day window? And if not, how might this impact the athletes considering these shoes for the Trials? Let the discussion begin!
So you honestly believe that USATF, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nike, Inc., is going to ban Nike’s latest racing shoe because hobby joggers couldn’t buy it a Dick’s Sporting Goods back in October?

I also don’t believe that Nike won’t find a way to have their athletes in them at the Trials. However, the rules exist, and they weren’t available for purchase until 4 January 2024.

My recollection was that rule was scrapped several years ago because all manufacturers wanted their best athletes to be able to "test" prototypes in major races.

World Athletics has today amended its rules governing competition shoes to provide greater clarity to athletes and shoe manufacturers around the world and to protect the integrity of the sport.
"From 30 April 2020, any shoe must have been available for purchase by any athlete on the open retail market (online or in store) for a period of four months before it can be used in competition."
And then: In the " World Athletics Approved Shoe List (as at 6 January 2024)," Alphafly 3's are not on the list.
