The perfect solution to being a solid 1500/5000 guy when both events have so much American depth and it is unclear which event is Coopers strongest.
The perfect solution to being a solid 1500/5000 guy who has won a US 1500 championship when both events have so much depth is to make the final and pull a Stewy if the pace dips.
For what it’s worth, I thought Oregon Coop had a good kick (not Jerry Coop :( ), just not as good as Cole. Still, Coop beat Cole in their 1v1 mile TTs over the years so that may be where he has his best chance. I imagine some will rightfully say that Cole is just more of a racer than a TT man. I don’t think Nuguse is left out of the Paris 3, and I see the following tiers forming for next year:
p(make Paris 1500 team) > 0.95:
Yared Nuguse
p(make Paris 1500 team) > 0.4:
Cole Hocker
p(make Paris 1500 team) > 0.2:
Hobbs Kessler
Cooper Teare
Coop is stronger(beats 8or9/10 in 3k and up) than everyone below this line
Teare is built for today’s 1500m. He has good 5000m strength and a solid turn of speed even off a fast pace. The dude is a sub 3:30, 7:30, 13:00 guy waiting to happen. Same goes for a Hocker. Them training together again is great news.

I agree. He may not be the only one who should try it but we have some middle distance guys who could probably be good steeplers. And we seem to be weak right now with no medal prospects.

god, rojo just give it a rest.
let coop do coop, stop boomering everything in sight. it makes the enjoyment less for the upcoming generation that you’re so desperate to have invest our time in t&f. let us enjoy our generation’s athletes in the context of what they want to do.
no one knew neguse was going to usurp everyone, stop moving them all to steeple and let them be what they’ll be.
He seems athletic enough that this could be his sweet spot
Couldn’t disagree more. Maybe it’s just his build, but I don’t think he’s coordinated enough to handle the chase. Then again plenty of africans with horrible technique have done alright.

It's just an interesting discussion, that's all. He could switch to the decathlon if he wanted.

Jakob has won the last two 5000m world titles and not the 1500m title. It's because he's the fastest 1500 guy with 'good enough' 5,000m strength. That could be Teare to some degree. Get Teare strong enough to hang with reasonably fast races and then he can kick. Especially when you're trying to make a US team, and trying to make the 5,000m global final. Neither of those two types of races will be all-out efforts. Teare just needs to get to where a 13:15 isn't a problem and use the 1500 speed to close hard. Then the global final is a different topic where you need to close hard off a roughly 13 flat pace. But it's just too congested on the world level for the 1500m with guys who can run 3:30-3:33.
