As for this year, he doesn't appear in the results. Their website gives him a 6 mile split of 30:01 and a 10 mile split of 44:16. The full course time is blank.
Internet sleuths, it's time to start sleuthing as those splits aren't humanly possible.
61:51 is 4:43 per mile pace. If he ran his first 6 miles in 30:01, he'd have to run the final 7.109375 miles in 31:50 which is 4:28.65 mile pace. But it lists a 10 mile split of 44:16, which means he allegedly ran the 4 miles between 6 and 10 in 14:15 - that's 3:33.75 mile pace!!! Then for him to record a 61:51 - his final 3.109375 miles would have had to have been 17:35 - which is 5:39.3 mile pace. That's a hell of a fartlek.
As LRC's resident coaching expert, let me say it's time to cancel the 1500 final. If those splits are legit, hand him the Olympi gold right now!!!
PS. In his post-race interview, he acted like things picked up at 10 miles so I don't know what's up with those splits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
If you go to Josh Kerr’s World Athletics Profile page you will notice that his performance at this event last year is not listed. THIS IS NOT A RECOGNIZED COURSE. However, this is a Citius wet dream. Chris and Kyle will be all over it with no mention about the non recognized course.
Say what you want about Danny Mackey as a coach, but he’s figured out how to balance Kerr’s strength and speed really well. Granted, Kerr is a huge talent, but Mackey deserves some credit here. Moderate mileage, only six days of running, but hitting both the aerobic and the fast stuff.
damn, thats fast for a 3:29 flat runner. Absolute monster freak athlete.
Is it? Ignore the course and how fast do you think guys like webb (like 27:35) or centro(13:00) would have run half in? Maybe a few of the very speed based guys would struggle but I sort of expect most of them would be in this 4:40-4:50 mile pace range.

WA doesn't recognize it? 714 foot net drop? Jakob would have run sub-58? That can all be true, but he still ran 2 minutes faster than he did on the course last year, before he won the World Championships. Anyone who thinks this isn't a good sign for Kerr is lying to themselves.
A quick history: After the 2021 Olympics, Jake Wightman (1:43/3:29 guy at the time) decided he needed to get stronger to beat Jakob. He spent 2022 indoors on the 3k, then beat Jakob at WCs. His countryman, Josh Kerr, decided to do the same thing. He ran a 63:45 half marathon in late 2022, had a huge 7:33 Millrose win, and went on to beat (a sick) Jakob at WCs. He recently announced a 2-mile WR attempt for Millrose 2024.
My conjecture: Josh Kerr knows he wouldn't have beaten a healthy Jakob (3:43/7:23 double Jakob), and there's no reason to think Jakob will slow down. Jakob and Nuguse have both run 3:43/7:2x now, so to win the Olympics, he's gotta be that strong. So he's getting super fit now (as evidenced by his 2min PR), he's going to sharpen that indoors to get the 2-mile WR (shooting for sub-8), and then he'll be fit enough to stick with Jakob and Nuguse no matter the pace.

Josh Kerr seems dialed in to this year's olympics. If he can stay healthy (always an if), he's going to be very dangerous.
Josh Kerr is a tremendous talent (NCAA 1500m champ over Cheserek(?) and 3:35 while at UNM, which was at or near an NCAA record at the time) who has not always been as disciplined as he needed to be. He is locked in and therefore will be dangerous in Paris if healthy.
