yes, quite recently in fact. Anna Hall winning the dec and getting 2nd in the 400 hurdles was a big reason behind why Florida won the team title in 2022. I think Ayden Owens-Delreme tried the same thing last year but didn't make it through prelims in the 400h.

Anna Hall is not a decathlete but yes, she has doubled the heptathlon and 400H at an NCAA championship.
Not surprisingly, JJK did this multiple times and in 1983 tripled in the heptathlon, LJ and 100H.
While not Deca to open event I did see Lawrence Johnson (4X NCAA Champ in PV and 2000 Oly Silver) win the SEC deca in his first and only decathlon and come back to win the PV as well.
Ayden did not compete in the decathlon last year because of injuries. He only competed in the 400H and the 4x400 at nationals. He did not compete in any decathlon's for Arkansas last year.

....
Not surprised Jackie Joyner Kersee triple at NCAA as she probably could have scored in Heptathlon, SP, LJ, HJ, and 100h...she would have been dead tired but I'm sure she could have if she had tried such a feat. She was a dnd still is the GOAT of heptathletes.

Tom Skipper did this at U of O in the Pac 10s winning the Dec in maybe his only college Dec and also won the Pole Vault. It might have been his freshman year

So going into the championships, his times from his previous 3 meets in the 400H wasnt enough to throw them over the top? Instead he drew a giant goose egg. Run the prelim like its your final, or it will be your final! Serious potential for 10 points down the drain and a dagger to the rest of the team by the time the 4 x 4 occurs, they arent that motivated. So yeah, if he had gotten at least 6 in the 400H, that might have inspired a few more points from somewhere. He was the lynch pin that didnt work out. They couldnt have won without him but they certainly could have with him trending the way he was going into the meet. It was a late season effort that didnt finish the way it could have. If he was injured, thats a different story. If he took the season off decathlon, why did he return to the team.? He was definitely trying to make a winning contribution but he didnt get the job done.
