The weird thing is that I believe it will be financially beneficial for Mantz to be hurt during the trials. Everyone believes he’s the best American (I don’t). He then can collect a big payday at Boston because the other Americans will be running the trials and never have to tarnish his reputation by losing at the trials.
At this rate it would be a stretch for an American man to finish top 30 in the Olympics
Remember that there are not that many athletes per country in the Olympics, so top 30 is easier at the Olympics than at probably Valencia, for example.
I hope it’s enough time. We are 7 weeks out. It depends how long it takes him to get back to full mileage.
Mantz was cross training since that race on Thanksgiving. Though his strava didn’t show it, he was back at 100 miles this week. He didn’t post everything on strava this week. For example, check out Clayton Young’s 6 mile tempo on December 14 where he was dropped by Conner. Mantz didn’t post that on his strava.
