AF was definitely messed up by the mud and just did not run well as a team, but impressive stuff from herriman. I have a couple Herriman guys on strava, they hit over a 60 mile week during state (6 days, peak for them), great job by soles.
This is following the Aaron Sahlman training plan. Addie Ritzenhein also didn't win states or nxr, but I do think unlike Aaron she has at least won some xc meets this year.
Addy Ritzenhein had an incredible season, she was undefeated other than NXR. She not only won her Colorado state meet but she shattered the state record.
In all fairness State and NXR were both very close races that could have gone either way. Herriman had beaten AF earlier in the season as well and looked to have a slight edge.
Besides NXR, Addy won all of her races by a very large margin, including state. She also broke a few course records. NXR was her only off race. She finished close to people she blew away in other races. I wasn't surprised when she won NXN.

Imo she didn't have an off day at nxr. In a place where her team was actually capable of losing, she took it conservatively to not risk blowing up, and got out kicked. She had the same plan at NXN and it just ended up people up front blew up and she took the opportunity given to her at 4k. Very similar strategy to Thouy in '22 nats. Good on her for not risking her teams status for individual glory.
Not very often a team wins NXN without winning NXR. Or without winning the state meet.
Last time this happened was 2019, when the FM girls team won the state meet & NXR, then Saratoga won NXN

Why do you call it 'states', how many states is she competing in?

The Aaron Sahlman's first XC win ever was NXN his senior year stat is still one of the craziest I've ever seen. No prelims, no dual meets, he'd never even been the #1 guy on his team, then he demolished the strongest field in NXN history in a course record.
American Fork won’t be bad, but I don’t think they will be at the level of Herriman next year. Herriman keeps 4 guys that ran a speed rating in the 180s.
AF also likely won’t make NXN. Out of the Southwest, I think the NXN-qualifying boys teams will be:
Herriman
Niwot
Mountain View
Valor Christian (this year really is their last chance to do anything with the new coach that they have. They will be very senior-heavy)

Valor Christian new coach is gone. No new guy yet but one of the assistants has taken over apparently. Will be very senior heavy but I wouldn’t count them as top 4 yet unless they figure something out.
