looked like maybe she'd been instructed to stick her nose in it with Katelyn to get used to the effort/racing feel but then only stay in for X kilometers??

that would seem odd to me....but it is also odd that they think she is fit enough to go but then DNFs twice in a row. One would think she must be handling workouts ok, so then why not finish a race?
and if it IS on purpose I don't understand it. is she being instructed to run a certain distance and stop? weird. maybe someone can elaborate.
If they are doing it on purpose, it's a way to get her race sharp without putting a full 6k effort in. This would assume they believe she may only have 1 full race in her due injury.
If not it's concerning, but she will run if they believe she can complete the national race.
she ran really hard at the start, was up near the front with Tuohy then abruptly stopped around the 3.5k mark, almost the same spot she stopped the week before. seems coordinated.
guess they want to give her race preparation without overdoing it.
if she's too hurt to keep going after 3K you'd think they'd notice that in practice.
hopefully someone uploads the race to youtube soon.

More likely is that she's injured and they're telling her to make sure she doesn't make it worse...
I mean most runners on the team can stay with the leaders for half the race... Without her as a top runner it's going to be really close for team title

Even with her I'm taking NAU for the team title and Tuohy for the individual title. NC State's title hopes are going to hinge a lot more on what 3 through 5 do. We already know that Tuohy & Chmiel will more than likely be top 5. Bush, Stephens, & Hartman all will need big races next week.

Not INJURED anymore. Just not 100% after recovering from injury.
So, here’s the deal. This is a tried and proven veteran of NCAA Cross Country. Running to what she’s COMFORTABLE thus far for the season, then drop out. No worries, team will still win. Get in there and do what you can, let’s evaluate.
8 days from now? “We gave you your breaks and comfort Amaris, now suffer for the team. Help us win.”
I hope you're right. But it's always easier said than done. I'd rather her actually finish a 6K and be a little slower than be dropping out
The fact that she's dropping out is a bad sign... Or a bad strategy.... At some point if an injury surfaces you have to stop, I mean she's not going to push herself to the point where she damages her future running career

If you’re limping along a national-class runner, and its time for nationals, and they had their education paid for? It’s time to run. She knows it.
Chmiel & Stephens did not race today but presumably will next week. Who gets bumped from the top 7?
vs today probably Schulz and Howlett do not run next week if Henes swings for the fence with Tyynismaa. So lineup would be Tuohy/Chmiel/Bush/Stephens/Hartman/Quarzo/ Tyynismaa. no tyynismaa choose Schulz, Howlett, or Gapes maybe. Gapes ran the best of those 3 during October but all were well back of Quarzo and Hartman.

this is Tuohy/Chmiels last XC race. Henes IS swinging for the fences. she'll run Tyynismaa for sure.

Henes said that she got a calf cramp and had to drop out the last time, so I don't think the intention is for her to drop out.
