Magness has made a nice living stating the obvious. He’s the Jim Fixx for sub elite runners.
While it is obviously performance enhancing, tweeting “do better” is hardly a destruction.

I find it interesting that in the stories about the TUE, Calamia goes by “he” despite going by ‘they’ seemingly every other time.
“When the San Francisco Marathon included a nonbinary division for the first time this July, Calamia, who identifies as trans and nonbinary and uses he and they pronouns, jumped at the chance, even if they weren’t in peak marathon shape. They became the race’s first winner in the nonbinary division with a time of 3 hours.”
It’s better to follow actual scientists like Michael Joyner, Jonathan Senefeld, and Csilla Krausz who actually put in the work and have substantive responses to articles like this.
It’s not like Magness is wrong but he hasn’t done any actual scientific research before…but acts like he is a guru on everything. In fact, he’s bringing attention to a low quality discussion we all would have ignored. Do better, Steve.

They're not crazy. They disagree about your diagnosis, erring on the side of freedom, voluntary choice, and tolerance. But those values are leading them to deny such clear facts as the extraordinary advantages conferred on people from testosterone.

Considering Magness used to dope / take testosterone, he should know.

Whether or not testosterone is a performance enhancer is a moot point. It DOES enhance performance. Does that mean athletes with higher levels should not compete against ones with lower levels? No.
i see the anti trans folks sprinting right past the part where there is a nonbinary division.
Another thread where men that don't care about women's sports pretend to care about women's sports.

Yes. Test is the quintessential PED and the foundation of any bodybuilder's cycle, but saying "do better" didn't change anyone's mind.
Cal is upset that USADA requires a lot of personal medical information before granting TUEs, but every athlete that wants a TUE needs to submit personal medical information before being granted an exception.
USADA's approach seems to be protecting the integrity of the nonbinary division. What's to prevent someone from gaming the system and competing in the division for some relatively easy money? There are no reports of it happening yet, but it's definitely not inconceivable that it will start happening if rules are lax.

Oh please educate us, with your advanced degrees medicine and psychiatry.
We shouldn’t have transwomen who have male-levels of testosterone compete in women’s divisions in sport. But that doesn’t change the fact that trans people are legitimate people and have existed for a very long time. I don’t why being a nice person is hard for so many people.

Jim Rome was the first guy who abused that trend...high decibel conventional wisdom.
The barstool types eat it up.
I got a howl yesterday when somebody bumped a year old thread which included a Magness tweet asserting that Sydney would take down Koch's 47.60 at 400 flat.
That was basically all I needed to know about his caliber. That claim was Barstool 101 after Eugene 2022.

I totally agree, and that's why I relish the prospect of women's podiums being topped by dudes (and even better if they stand atop them in bunhuggers with wide stances).
The more humiliation of women athletes the better!
so we're conflating EPO and testosterone now?
Has Magness ever had his testosterone checked. Would be shocked if it’s higher than an anemic female athlete
