Coaching for a once in a lifetime peak performance and then burnout, but who cares. Or coaching to make athletes better. It seems like the former with BTC
That's 21.7 miles at marathon pace. How is it not an insane workout?
I'm not saying that it wouldn't be hard, but it wouldn't be insane. People do 4*1 mile at 5k pace. That would be the equivalent to 54*1k at marathon pace.

Nah, those are absolutely not the same insfoar as how they would affect the body. I think only someone that had never trained for a distance longer than 10K or HM would equate the two.
Because it's not. That's just a fact. Also why the West is so bad at the marathon. Many of the worlds best marathoners are doing continuous work near that same volume. If you are running 120 + miles a week and have progressed proper that's not an illogical workout.
20 miles worth of work at marathon intensity WITH BREAKS is far less dangerous than some of the real serious high intensity work that they and many other groups do.
Especially for the right type of athlete.
People will think thats crazy but then not bat an eye at say 8 x 200m "all out" - (far more dangerous workout for almost anyone).
But I won't expect people to agree with me because most of you are not smart.
35 x 3 minutes of running at 85% HR with a 60 second walk break - sounds like a big Galloway workout!
That equates to 2hrs and 20 minutes plus warm up and cool down probably equals 3 hrs.
Seems silly. Still hoping it’s a typo, otherwise injury in the making.
No, what is silly is training similar to a collegiate 10k runner with a longer long run and expecting to run under 2:10.
It’s a really tedious workout . Do longer reps. More continuous . But it’s not a workout that screams “injury”.
The marathon and the 800m are in particular incredibly specific events . Everything between pretty similar.
For some reason most people in the west afraid to get specific for the marathon. Whether you guys are limited by fear or lack of intellect I am unsure .
Back in my college days I did a lactate threshold repeat workout of:
20 x 800m @ 2:30 w 200m jog recovery
At that point I would have estimated my Lactate Threshold was in the 5:00-5:10 range (although we didn't think in those terms back then).
That is 10 miles worth of work in one session at the fast end of Lactate Threshold for me.
I was a distance monster back in those days and was able to handle that workout much easier then I could the 12 x 400 @ mile pace speed sessions we did. But most of my teammates couldn't do more than 10 or 12 of the 800 repeats at LT but could do the full 12 x 400 session.
While obviously 35 x 1k is extreme, for a high mileage elite distance runner It's not out of the realm of possibility. Especially is broken up into 2 sessions during the day.
Not sure as a coach I'd prescribe it but I can believe someone like Rupp back about 10 years ago could have done that.

Bud you know none of the BTC are marathoners, right?
Did they specify the pace on these - if it was Aerobic/Ventilation Threshold (85-88% of Max HR) then it's a doable (although extreme) workout for a high mileage elite marathoner.
