Tuohy is one of the best collegiate runners of all time and she is going to win NCAAs again.
She had a bad race at NCAAs and a so-so outdoor season. At Nuttycombe she looked surprised by Valby's speed and more concerned with her gloves than the chase. She just needs to get her groove back after her break and get ready to win.

Tuohy doesn't like being in the red zone for long. I think she tested that zone the last meet with Valby. So I think she'll go back to staying close enough to chase valby down before the finish. Valby is just a rare breed that will race in the red zone much longer than others. Similar to Flanagan when she ran cross country in her college days.
She is not the same runner. She bombed outdoor and will never get back to the same level. Everyone peaks at some point. Ping. Cain. Effraimson. Lane. Dudek.

Bombed outdoor yet still set an NCAA record lol. Sure it wasn’t the ending she had hoped but she’s come back from injury and a rough freshman year before, why are you so adamant she can’t again? Also she just broke the course record that was held by the NCAA champ Whittni Orton, don’t think she’s that really far off her previous fitness.

Blah blah blah
No junk in the trunk at all. But definitely rocks in your head.
She tried to peak for an entire season of XC, then indoors, and then outdoors. Not possible. She needs to rest after XC, take indoors at 85% and work her way to an outdoor peak. Even that she should take easy if she wants to have any shot at a top 3 in the Oly trials. She'll already be an outside shot. If she's fried at the trials, then 0% chance.
Look at Mu's last college season vs Brazier. Similar to each other as generational 800 talents. Brazier hammered his last season of College track and burned out at the Oly trials. Mu took it super easy her last season of college track and went on to an (obviously) incredible Olympic campaign.

Tuohy is a phenom. Maybe it's her day this time, maybe not, but I wouldn't bet against her.
I could see Valby being a great marathoner someday like Shalane.
Barely placed in 1500 and didn't start 5000 rather than get embarrassed a 2nd time. If that isn't bombing, your expectations of her are lower than mine. Will 10th in XC be a good performance then?

Oh, come on, enough of this ridiculous talk. She has ZERO chance of making the team for Paris. ZERO. She is aiming for one thing - trying to win NCAAs in a few weeks. That's it. But this will be the excuse we will hear from November 18th onward after she loses to Valby. "She just took it easy," "she is peaking for the Olympics," "she trained straight through the race," "she is saving herself to beat Faith Kipyegon next summer." Every loss has an excuse.
As for peaking every season, I know for a fact that Huber, Kipyegon, Skieresz, Schweizer, and D'Agostino, Rhines, and O'Sullivan all won XC, indoor, and outdoor titles in the same year. Suzy Favor took 2nd in XC and won two indoor and two outdoor titles in the same year.

I feel like these type of 'rabid-fan' threads aren't created by actual fans, but by trolls trying to rile people up.
Most of us want just want to see a great race at NCAAs, regardless if it's Tuohy or Valby. But you wouldn't know that from reading all of these troll threads about them.

Tuohy and her coach have never made excuses. So you don’t like her fans, whatever, why bash the athlete for that? She has been nothing but humble and very team oriented, great role model.
Competition has gotten tougher over the years. Not that many repeat champions anymore. XC is the most difficult to win, everyone in one race, unlike track where there are multiple events that spread out the talent. It is what it is.
As for Favor Hamilton, she did win a lot of titles, sure. She also intentionally fell in the Olympic 1500 final and later became a prostitute.
Except that is exactly what happened last season. That she was wearing down at the end of Outdoor was noticeable. She was still running very good times and imho would have won the 5000m if she had not tried to double off the 1500m based on Regionals. But silly to deny what happened. Does not matter what other people allegedly did. It did not work for her and she has adjusted her approach.
Maybe she wins 11/18. Maybe she loses. Valby is very good. But there is a reason why I expect the national race to be close. Nor am I buying the idea that Valby suddenly has had a massive jump in ability. She is as dominant as she was last season until she lost.
