As a side note, Snell is the single most annoying influencer there is. Apparently she's. heroic for being mortally obese
Do they have to keep the timer up for her to finish? What a waste of resources. Strict 6 hour cut off for marathon. That is being generous as it's 3 times the WR time. It's not even running anymore.
What on earth? 9hrs? Even if you walked the entire way at a moderate pace, that’s still only like 7hrs at most…..
Talking about slow marathons (not Snell, but in general) and how the average person doesn't understand the difference between just finishing and actually running/racing a marathon.
Going back about 8-10 years. I'm sitting in a running shoe store waiting for a group run to start.
Mo Farah had just had a sub-par (for him) London Marathon.
Someone in the group comments how he ran poorly then asked- how is going to do the Boston Marathon now- he'll never win!!!
I asked- when is he doing Boston? And they looked at me like I had two heads and was some clueless idiot who didn't know that Boston was in the next week or two.
The guy say Next week!!! Boston is next week!!
I said- he's not running Boston! He just ran London.
At that point I had the room's attention because they wondered where I could possibly have gotten this inside information from.
Someone asked- why isn't he running.
I said- you can only run 2-3 marathons a year.
This lady says- No!!! I have a friend who runs 5 or more a year!
I said- Not in 2:08 he doesn't!!
Then I actually had to explain that a marathon actually takes a lot out of you and to recover and train for another one can takes months.
The just don't see the difference between 5:30 and 2:08.
Slow is the new fast. And it's sad.

I wouldn't tell slow runners not to run at all, but people getting internet fame and in some cases even sponsors for being slow and fat really drives me crazy.
Then they get triggered about a singlet that doesn't celebrate 5 hours.
If it was possible to give more than one up vote I'd give you the upper limit. It's wonderful that people push themselves to finish marathons but the sport is being redefined as one that exists for the five hour plus types. The competitive end is only slightly noticed. Races have become events.
Does keeping the course open for 9 hrs increase the costs? who’s going to want to spend 1,000 to get into a po dunk marathon?
These influenzers are annoying. Being that heavy and doing "running" will not be good for you.
Instead they should focus on getting started on a better diet. Of course that will never happen.

This article makes me wonder if there should be a slowest marathon competition, like who can cross the finish line in the longest amount of time. There would have to be some rules though, e.g. if there is more than one second of not moving forward, you are disqualified.
This problem even exists here, though. If one mentions the obvious instance of a female packing on extra weight that can't be good for her racing, people go crazy about it. Yet, people are talking about this woman here and her weight and how it's negative for the sport. I don't disagree, but where is the cut-off line? IMO, anyone doing less than their best is open to some degree of criticism (certainly myself included).
There should be more expectations toward those who have been given much talent and supporting conditions. I agree with all of the above. These plodding marathon parades are a mess and a mockery of the sport for sure, but the massive hypocrisy here annoys the hell out of me, too.
I don't see the big deal here. Someone running it in 9 hours doesn't impact my race. Hopefully it encourages them to run more/live a healthy lifestyle. Logistically, there's a cost to keeping a course open. I'm ok with starting to break things down & somebody continuing to run to finish in whatever they finish in. All good.
You don't "run" for 9 hours.
6 days...
Gotta love the parents who subtly mention to their kids’ high school coaches about how they know a bit about running because they’ve done a marathon. It’s always so awkward. lol

This right here. We are trying to get this across to our running club but it's being run by the very group we're talking about.
The Club President was complaining that he's doing "all this extra stuff and I'm not getting any faster"!
He rarely runs- 2-3 miles a couple days a week with some 1-2 mile walks a couple times a week.
You tell them that to get faster at running you have to run and they get mad.
