I'm a long-time runner (15 years, 25,000+ miles) but somehow missed out on the whole Super Shoe trend over the past 3 years (have not raced since 2020).
Now I read all these threads about people who basically just jump in Super Shoes on race day, seemingly with minimal to no training in them. How is this possible/advisable?
In my case I've been training 65 mpw in Saucony Guides (mild overpronator) and just picked up a pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 and Pro 3. I plan on giving them a shot on short runs and if I feel like one is "good", I'd consider it for the race.
Race in question is NYC. Is that too soon? I can probably get 3-4 runs (moderate) in each of the Guides, Endorphin Speed 3, and Endorphin Pro 3. I plan on running my last long run my old shoes though.
Is this possible or should I not even bother thinking about switching away from Guides on race day? The Speed seems like a good middle ground..
Thanks! I'm not very fast. I've run just under 3 in the past. I'm over 40, male.
