Looking for something that is both reasonably light but cushioned. Wary of the 5mm drop on the Clinton's due to achilles issues.

I also debated between the two. I went with the Hokas. They are o-k. The drop is significant, as you alluded to. They seem to look like they will last a good amount of time, unlike other Clifton versions. It’s a toss up tho.
Totally different shoes. Ride is lower, flexible, firmer and faster.
clifton is thick, rocker based (though not extreme), softer, harder to pick up the pace in.
I love the Ride (15 now 16). I never wore Hoka's but I know many recreational runners who are switching away from them.
I tried the Ride 15 and wasn't a huge fan. Too firm for my taste. I use them as my stationary bike shoes now. I even less of a fan of Hoka Clifton.
I like Skechers Ride or Max Road over both of those
I'm on mile 225 of my Clifton 9s, and I can honestly say this is the best set of trainers I've ever had. I have had zero injury issues (if you don't count my tweaked hamstring reaching down for a golf ball - yeah, I'm frigging old!). They are definitely not great for acceleration and going for PRs, but as an overall daily trainer, I can't recommend them enough (no pain in my Achilles whatsoever - no connective tissue/shin splint/muscle tweaks either).
Love this model too
I loved the Saucony Ride 15 during the first run I had in them, but then took them on a 20k run and screwed up my plantar and peroneal tendons. Had to take 2 days off afterwards, and I've not worn them again.
I think the issue is too much "torsional flex". That is, if you pick them up and bend the midsole side to side, they're ridiculously floppy.
It was a shame though, because they were quite comfortable, smooth and nimble, with plenty of cushioning.
Ride 17 should be on shelves soon. Look for early release soon
Plus the new Clifton will hit just around New Years. Looks like a solid upgrade from V9
