But seriously, there is some truth to the hypothesis that we naturally seek out things our bodies need or lack. I remember hearing about a controlled dietary experiment (probably conducted by or mentioned in a video by Chris Gardener at Stanford) where the kids could eat anything they wanted from a limited buffet menu and exactly one kid, a kid with severe rickets, would voluntarily drink gobfuls of cod liver oil without anyone advising him to do so, and once he got cured, he automatically stopped drinking the yucky tasting oil.
But most people in the modern world seem to be losing touch with their hunger and satiety signals and possibly with their nutritional deficiency-induced craving signals as well.
