Im guessing Tokyo... layup easy win compared to Boston and more time to recover for Paris
Kiptum Is going to be in Tokyo. So no easy win for Kipchoge of he goes there. No win at all. I'm sure Kipchoge won't show up until the Olympics marathon. Or he may run a minor marathon in the spring (such as Paris or Rotterdam). But i'm sure he will only focus on the Olympics next year. It's interesting to know what Kiptum and Chebet will do actually.
he seems to prefer a 5 to 6 month break between races, and Boston would only give 3.5. and there are other reasons for him to avoid it. i would be highly surprised to see him there.
I'm currently working on the WTW and I'm writing that I think Kiptum's WR in Chicago makes it much more likely that Kipchoge goes to Boston. We know Kiptum will go to London to defend his title. I could see Kipchoge skipping out on that and waiting to clash in London.
But he also may not be willing to admit he's not as good as Kiptum and think, "I want to beat him in London."
I reckon Tokyo is more likely for him than Boston. His main focus right now is the Olympics. Tokyo gives him more time and space to prepare for the Olympics. Also he has good memories from Tokyo Having won there before as compared to Boston. I think he wants to finish on a high note and not go through a similar experience to the last one he had in Boston. My money is on Tokyo.
I will guarantee that right now, London Marathon Events is working on an offer to try and get both Kipchoge and Kiptum for next year. I'm not sure if they'll get it, my guess is that Kipchoge turns it down for a revenge tilt at Boston but the offer will go in from London and it will be huge. Expect them to try for Assefa and Hassan as well, and that match-up is more likely

So are you saying that Kiptum will run in London 100% next year?

There is plenty of precedent for Kipchoge here.
The 2024 Paris Olympics Marathon is on August 10th.
He won London in 2016, race was held April 24th and then won the Olympic Marathon which was August 21st.
He won the NN Mission Marathon in 2021, race was held April 18th and then won the Olympic Marathon which was August 8th.
2024 Boston Marathon is April 15 2024 London Marathon is April 21
My guess is we don't see Kiptum v Kipchoge until Paris. I just don't see it happening in London. I think Kipchoge goes back to Boston for not just revenge, but more importantly, it's a hillier marathon which gets him better suited for the Paris course.

Say what?
Yeah, this entire paragraph made no sense to me. Maybe it's because I'm still jet-lagged from an international flight but I've read it a few times and I'm still baffled. It's not well put together, at all.

Almost certainly. He's the defending champ and a proven performer. LME will be hoping for another WR performance. And no marathon can compete with what London can offer, they'll blow Tokyo and Boston out of the water

It would be great but i think it's too optimistic. I can't see Kiptum chosing London (3 months and half before Olympics) over Tokyo (more than 5 months before the Olympics).

Kiptum is going to Tokyo while Kipchoge is not running before the Olympics. If he runs anything then it will be a minor and fast marathon like Rotterdam.

Agree, he'll want a confidence boost ahead of the Olympics. Kipchoge to Tokyo, Kiptum to London seems most likely. We'll have to wait until Paris to see them race each other.
I can't wait til Chebet beats Kiptum and Kipchoge on the hilly Paris course. Hopefully we get those three as the Kenya team. Guessing each one will run a separate major in the spring, so Chebet tries to threepeat Boston, then Kiptum and Kipchoge choose between Tokyo and London. London is only 16 weeks before Paris, so I think it's the less ideal choice, so they both might favor Tokyo. Kiptum has the record and his times have only improved, so the pressure seems to be on Kipchoge in terms of risking not winning. Although at the end of the day, I think the appearance fees are the biggest driver, so I'd be curious who would earn a bigger fee from which race, Kipchoge with a much more established brand and following, or Kiptum with his shiny new WR and youth. Regardless, my biggest hope is all three are healthy this summer and get selected to the Kenya team.
Kipchoge wants easy wins and big cash payouts at this point in his career. He's not a young buck with something to prove, like the guy who went head to head with Bekele and El G at Worlds.
