Last night I heard from Sifan Hassan on what she's expecting (or not expecting) from Chicago, what it is that drives her to test herself at all the distances and how simply winning medals will never be enough.
besides Jakob, she is easily my favorite. Love the attitude of "i want to see what I am capable of" versus the Kersee group attitude of "lets just not risk anything so we can try to do really really great in one event"
“I didn’t see an athlete comeback from marathon to track so I just want to see what is possible but I didn’t really care about losing or winning or breaking world records. Whether I win or lose it’s good for me to find out.”

Hassan’s wtf attitude is awe inspiring. She will try anything and has NO fear and she seems very much at peace with her results regardless. She did get a little defensive after she fell in Budapest in the 10, but she was really at ease and happy simply to medal in the 1500 and 5000. I don’t understand people who don’t root for her. I guess they are too wrapped up on doping conspiracies.
It’s so weird how they keep changing the OG schedule of events around. Sometimes natural doubles like 10k/marathon are promoted by keeping the events well apart on the schedule, other times they put them close together. I remember in London the 800 prelims were between the 1500 semis and final. Just silly. 10k and marathon should be a week apart.
1) It will be interesting to see Sifan Hassan race Chicago Marathon.
2) I read the article. Said article does not clearly state Sifan Hassan is racing 10000m & Marathon. If she plans to do so, it is not out of bravery. It simply means Sifan Hassan believes she has an opportunity to earn Olympic medals in both. Even on tired legs from 10000m, she has a chance to medal, Marathon. Look at list of women Marathon bronze medalists. There are women Marathoners who could never finish top three, Berlin Marathon or London Marathon with Olympic bronze Marathon medals. If Sifan Hassan is not overly ambitious, she can medal, Olympic Marathon, tired legs or not.
3) Olympic schedule: Ten-thousand meters no longer has a prelim round. Ten-thousand meters 1 1/2 day later, Marathon is fair enough. If schedule were expanded to 14 or 15 days for Olympics & W.C., athletics, numerous double combinations would be available to athletes: 200m/400m, 400m/400mH/110mH/200m, 110mH/400mH, 400m/800m, 400mH/800m, 800m/1500m, 3000mSC/10000m, etc.

OP wrote the article ffs, I think they know more about the context of the conversation than you do
I don't care who wrote the article. The article does not clearly state Sifan Hassan is racing 10000m & Marathon, 2024 Olympics. Even if Sifan H is telling everyone from east Africa to Europe she may race 10000m & Marathon, 2024 Olympics, does not mean she will do it. Sifan H may plan on racing both up until the morning of Marathon. Have you heard of D.N.S?
Knowing more about T&F than I know about T&F takes a lot of knowing. Ninety-nine percent of posters on here are sell appointed experts, 800m to Marathon. I'm posting about every event, indoor 60m dash to Marathon plus jumps and throws.
Has any man or woman in Olympic history won medals at 1500, 5k, 10k, and marathon? Or would this be a first?
she already has 5/10 holds and a bronze in the 15.
If she earns a medal in Marathon, she would be the first. I guess P Nurmi decided against trying Marathon. E Zatopek wasn't elite, 1500m.
I am sure, at most recent Olympics, S Hassan had a goal of three Olympic gold medals, 1500m, 5000m & 10000m. At Paris, 2024, S Hassan will be pleased medaling. I believe S Hassan knows, 1500m to Marathon, she will not be the favorite in any event. If she walks away with a gold in one or more event, great for her. I see Sifan Hassan entering 2024 Olympics the way I saw Alberto Juantorena pre-1976 Olympics. Ninety-seventy-two Olympics, he was 5th in semifinal, 400m, 46.07. Alberto Junatorena didn't advance to 400m final, 1972. I don't believe he planned to win two gold medals after his 1972 performance. I believe racing 400m and 800m, 1976 was a hedge.
Sifan Hassan has to know book makers do not have her as a favorite in 1500m, 5000m, 10000m or Marathon. Racing as many events as possible, 2024 is a hedge. Sifan Hassan knows anything can or may happen.
It really should be a set schedule to allow for the most logical doubles with room to navigate if there's a world beater with a less conventional double.
I'm not even positive about the second part, because if it'd been set 100 years ago doubles would be easier to compare across generations.

You really twisted that to be whatever you wanted. Notice how you skipped over the part where I qualified "about the context of the conversation".
No one is insulting your all powerful T&F knowledge, but maybe keep the ego in check a bit more?
