Eliud Kipchoge, the world-renowned double Olympic marathon gold medalist, is known for his impressive running performance and simple diet. With a weekly running distance of nearly 220km, his diet
Definitely high carb. Opposite to keto diet. Appears to be 70% carb intake.
There’s an old nutcase around here called XY, an unusually proud possessor of allegedly visible abs, who will come around and tell everyone that that diet is pure cancer, inflammation, diabetes and all nutritional ills of humanity.
Beans and lean beef are a good source of protein but I wonder if he (and other top Kenyans) supplement it with protein shakes and other sorts like most Western athletes would.

Unlikely. Almost everyone including runners gets sufficient protein for tissue repair just by eating naturally, especially with a diverse diet like Kipchoge’s. The only folks who might want (not need) to supplement protein are hardcore muscle builders and that too only during anabolic phases, not maintenance passes, and only to optimize the hypertrophy process, not by necessity.

I know I know I know!
XY needs to reach out to Kipchoge and fix his crazy diet....BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!
I mean high carbs .. lots of grains... milk ...beans...veggies....LEAN[?!] meat....low fat????!!!
WTF? Sooooooo many anti-nutrients, so anti-paleo, sooooo crazy.
When Kipchoge is an old man like XY, he will probably be on death's doorstep. And XY will STILL be out doing sprints with the Young Bucks, high-fiving ladies as he finishes long runs on the track, impressing everyone as he shuffles along at his 20 minute per mile pace, And just being a total all around badass!
Poor Kipchoge. If he could have only not been brainwashed by the fake nutritional Experts of the world, and had instead, like XY, listened to all the nutrition Rebels and influencers on YouTube. What might have been?
He could have been a contendah! Instead of a bum.... which is what he is.
Theres nothing special about what he eats, its whatever grows around him in that part of Kenya.
And I think thats the whole point, if you keep your diet natural and eat the right proportions of carbs, proteins and fats you're doing fine.
Also I doubt he eats kale, its probably sukuma, a local green leaf veg, closer to collard greens or spinach.
No doubt he takes supplements too.
Kind of like if I limited my diet to Potatoes, bean and kale.
I'm 64, I've been eating kale every day for about 10 years. I read that it helps muscles heal after surgery. I had a hernia operation and was back to work in two days and running on the 5th day.

Yeah, yeah.... but do you run sprints with the Young Bucks and high five young ladies on the track after completing long runs? Ha, didn't think so.

Nice!
Very true.
WE eat off the ground.......from shamba to your dining table.
From your chai (Kenyan tea...........and milk from cows) to ugali , to potatoes , beans , maize , onions, tomatoes, sukuma wiki, cabbages, spinach, carrots, meat e.t.c.
We rear chickesn too and do NOT buy eggs.
Other than meat and tea (which we buy but which also came from the local shambas), most people in the rural areas are farmers and grow their own crops.
WE eat what is around us.
We have lots of oranges in Nyahururu and everything that i've listed above other than sugar and tea which we don't grow. It grows in other parts of the country .
I'm not really surprised by this. I think as long as your diet isn't deficient in any essential nutrients and doesn't cause gastrointestinal discomfort while running, it probably won't really affect performance at all.
